Kinder
Kinder was very thirsty after her train ride to Bologna! 07.26.06
I am currently sitting in the Grotowski Centre. Amazing. I’m in Poland!! I made it, finally. Let me explain-
I left Park in Italy on Monday. I took a train to Forli airport. I got on my crowded flight to Frankfurt, during which time my phone alarm clock went off, even thought the phone was off, and rude old Italian men laughed at me and the flight attendants were very mean.
I arrived at Frankfurt Hahn a little early, and thought, good, i’ll be asleep in an hour. Nope. Frankfurt HAHN is two hours from Frankfurt Main. Smart, me. So, having a mini melt down, I ate a strange sandwich and got onto a bus into town. I met a nice girl who was interviewing to be an au pere in Frankfurt. She and I wandered around the International Airport and after her ride arrived, I took a taxi to my hotel. We had a bi-lingual conversation. in that he was speaking German to me and I was repeating that I don’t understand in english. I arrived at the Hotel Europa, and the cabbie insisted that I call him and get coffee in the morning. He was about 65. Hotel
Frankfurt bed
My HUGE bed in Frankfurt. I needed it. Europa was a dream- clean and cool and quiet and a HUGE bed, all for very cheap. I fell asleep late, thinking that I would sleep on the train.
Yesterday morning, feeling quite ill, I left my hotel in Frankfurt at 7 am. I had tried to eat a german breakfast on a sleepy stomach, which is never good. My stomach has been upset for days now. Ugh. My first train was fine, except that while I checked my stop name about fifty times, I still neglected to get off at the right place. I spent an extra 3.5 hours in Dresden Main station because I am an idiot. Having my second mini meltdown of the week, I had my mom email Justyna at the Centre, who found someone to pick me up from the later train. So, I finally arrived at 9:15 pm, having taken a much crappier, hotter train on a much slower route to Wroclaw, during which two drunk Polish men sat in my car and yelled at me for not being able to understand them. I was somewhat anxious, needless to say. A funny Danish girl picked me up and we made our way to Justyna’s

I arrived to find a very pleasant little flat in the suburbs of Wroclaw. Wonderful! And Jusstyna’s mom, an architect who works from home, was exactly what I needed. After a nice glass of water, I brushed my teeth and went to sleep. The next morning I awoke early, met Justyna, had some more water (as you do in Europe because it’s not as easy to just get water here) and went back to sleep for a bit. Carolina, a friend of Justyna’s, went with me to the Centre. I checked email, spent some time walking around, bought a Polish sim chip for my phone, which is still not unlocked, darn it, and relaxed before my trip to the woods. I went with Magda, also a Centre employee, and several others to the Drogerie (market) and picked up dinner for that night. Then we made out way, five of us and luggage and pierogi, in a tiny car to meet more people. I then piled into a two person european car with no air conditioning driven by two of Theatre ZAR’s performers and we made our way to Brzezinka. It took only forty five minutes or an hours,

Brzezinka is a lovely, magical place. And you feel it the minute you step from the car. The weather was cooler by then, and being in the forest, the shade helped drop it down several more degrees. Brilliant.
I put my things away and started preparing for the others to arrive. Around eight or so a bus of Americans from LA and several Polish people arrived to watch a presentation and a lecture by Theatre ZAR. It was very informative and quite helpful for me in understanding my next few days. THey work from ancient songs, mostly from rituals. Bulgarian, Georgian, etc. From the oldest Christian churches in existence. Lots of research and travel.
I have not many pictures of Brzezinka as it is forbidden to photograph or video tape anythign. However, because TheatreLabor is using a grant from the German government to make this happen, there is documentation of the work that has been done. So, perhaps it will be popssible to
