On our last day in Twente. We had a nice breakfast, where Liz surprised me. She had arranged a present for my Birthday. A real surprise, I had no idea. A few phone calls congratulating me started a promising day. Medieval games were held in Diepenheim a small place close by. It has a small castle called Warmelo. We had to look it up on the map, we never heard of it before. The distances in Holland are small, it did not take long to arrive there. Close to the place you just followed the cars. There were that many visitors. Lots to see. People were showing their different professions that were done during those times. There was even a make out funeral that made their way through the public. The main attraction was the Knights on their horses, their long lances ready to try to unsaddle the opponents. It was packed around the arena. It was the high light of the day, pity that just at that moment the heavens opened up and rain came bucketing down on the unprepared public that tried to find a place to hide, not to get soaked. We had a tiny umbrella that we
took at the last moment but was not a real help for the wind took hold of it and turned it inside out. A few trees gave us some cover. At a sporadic dry moment we made out way back to the car. At the Hotel we found a bottle of champagne given to us by the staff to celebrate my birthday. Later we had a nice dinner at a cosy place to finish a nice day. Following day we left De Lutte in pouring rain. We had to drive the car close to the entrance to load the suitcases. On the way to Amsterdam, we visited Family in Westerbork. We met Margreet only on the net. Margreet was waiting on the doorstep. We looked through old Family pictures and worked out who was who. Pity we could not stay longer. Amsterdam called and although it is not that far, the traffic can hold up things. Not so today we arrived late afternoon. Dolf had fixed a parking for the car. Very important in Amsterdam. You don't want the car to far away from where you are. Gerda was waiting inside with cool drink. Lots of things to talk about
and further plans to be worked out. We had to visit my sister. She had been waiting all this time to have a talk with us. Coffee and cake and later a very nice lunch awaited us. We spent a nice day together. We will spent the next few days in Amsterdam, but will be on the move again later in the week. Till than Liz & Allan
