For the second week break we traveled to various regions in the Northern area of Western Europe. Stop one was Amsterdam. I was only there for 12 hours because I had to catch a train to go get Meagan in Paris. It was still a lot of fun though. The way there was very interesting. There was a train accident on our way to Zurich for our connection, so we had to take a bus to another train station to get to Zurich and catch our overnighter to Amsterdam. When we got on the overnight train we went to the wrong room at first. Liza and Michelle were trying to adjust hte beds because it was a four person room adn there was a man sleeping in it. Very awkward. So we then found our 6 person car, which was right next door, which had 2 men already sleeping in it. Even more awkward. Edwin came from Holland and Lionel was from Switzerland. Edwin owns a company where he rides bikes to drunk peoples cars anddrives them home. Lionel drives trains. We had a nice conversation but Ewin was in his whitey tighties which was really uncomfortable for us girls. In
Bagels and Beans
Home of the best bagels ever! the car was me, Michelle, Monica, and Liza. We stopped at a train station for border control and some man had to get off the train and like 6 guards were surrounding his stuff and 2 wore rubber gloves. Edwin said it was a bomb, but I think it was drug related. Then as soon as we started moving again customs came and wanted to check Edwin's bag, so I thought great we're bunking with a drug dealer. It was just paintings though, so we then thought they were the ones that had been stolen from Zurich, but his girlfriend had made them. That wasn't nearly as exciting as we had hoped it would be. After we arrived in Amsterdam we said bye to our new found friends, but Liza like an idiot had told Lionel he could hang out with us till his next train when she wasn't even going to be with us! She was going to Haarlem. Great! He wouldn't take our hints that he needed to leave so Megan told him to go away and leave us alone and he said I understand and kept standing there! So he apparently didn't get it. Eventually though he
did and left. There was a coffee shop called the doors. It made me think of Thomas. By the way, coffee shops in Amsterdam are NOT coffee shops like Starbucks or something like that. We went to the Anne Frank house. It was bigger than I thought it would've been. But I guess when you put 8 people or was it 6? in there it gets kind of cramped. I didn't get to see the chestnut tree while I was there though. I was kind of bummed about that. I saw a real Oscar there too. That was cool just because I can say I saw one, but it wasn't anything too special. After that we were starving so we went to this place called Bagel and Bean and I had the best bagel and cream cheese of my life!! It was delicious. I ordered a wheat bagel with honey walnut cream cheese. Yum-o. The bagel place was really cute and quaint. They played soft jazz music and served sugar and brown sugar cubes on the table. Then we kind of just wandered around Amsterdam. I saw naked girls in windows in the red light district. That was strange and
surprising. I was actually shocked. I'd heard about it but didn't really believe it till I saw it. It's definitely a strange world we live in. The women were in glass windows, under red electric light, all dressed in black. Some were pretty, some were fat and ugly, but I felt sorry for them all. I thought of what a sad and un-fulfilling life they must live. I heard that 11% of them have AIDs. It's very tragic to think that that is the price we pay to make a living. Anyway, we kept passing this thing called the homo monument, which means that at least half the time we were wandering around we were going in circles. O well. We found the "flower" market. It consisted of tulip bulbs. Weak! We passed the coffee shop where the Italian Job or some movie starring Matt Damon or someone like that was filmed. I got my picture taken in front of it. I'll post it. We then got disgusting Chinese food and I hopped on a train to Paris. haha. In Amsterdam there was this giant wooden shoe. Monica sat in it. I didn't want to for some reason I don't
remember. Anyway...
END.
