February 2020. We are still in Tucson, Arizona, well, often anyway. We continue our wanderings and enjoying our adventures. We haven't lived outside the US in awhile, but have lived in: Guatemala, Ecuador, the Netherlands (twice), Germany (twice) and South Africa. Opening Ceremonies 30th Jean-Pictet/Ohrid

At the Opening Ceremonies the competitors bring traditional goodies from their countries to share and often dress in traditional clothes. The team (3) on left competed in French and are from Cote d'Ivoire; the 3 on the right competed in English and are from South Africa

Petits Bras/Little Arms

Kathy w/Andreja and Arnaud - my fellow workers at the Jean-Pictet; we worked extremely close together and had a ball. We are called Petits Bras, meaning little arms, because we assist the competition administrator

Christophe, the Jean-Pictet administrator with whom I work, with two of the Pakistani team who were semi-finalists

Tutors/Jean-Pictet/Ohrid

Urs and Chad were both tutors to teams at the Jean-Pictet competition - they advise, encourage and morally support their four teams of 3

Kathy & Anna

Anna is one of our oldest friends at the Jean-Pictet and it is a delight to see her (and all the others) every year

B & K w/Nalia/Ohrid

Nailia is a graduate student of Bernie's from Germany; he is actually her thesis advisor. She is Russian and was competing with a team from Kazan, Russia

More Tutors/Ohrid

Marjan is our friend from Iran, she and Chad were tutors and Simon, middle, a juror/judge. You may remember Marjan from my Iranian blog as we saw her there

Closing Ceremonies/Ohrid

After the closing ceremonies and dinner the real celebrating began with group photos, then dancing and wine . . . .

Wine Tasting/Ohrid

One of our people was stationed at the French Embassy in Skopje and had lived in Macedonia for a few years. He brought wine from his favorite vineyard and the staff had a wine tasting party one evening.

This was the lower deck; we were dancing on the upper deck too on our way to Ohrid city. The party boat back after dark was even more raucous

Boat trip on Lake Ohrid

Christophe, the administrator, arranged a very fun day for everyone: boat trip complete with DJ and dancing, tour in Ohrid, return party boat

Downtown Ohrid

The party boat brought everyone to the center of Ohrid where many saw the sights and others were drawn to lakeside cafes - it was a beautiful day

Closing Ceremonies 30th Jean-Pictet/Ohrid

The Air Force Academy team with Rasha, one of the competition winners from Essex, UK. Every year Bernie goes to CO Springs to work with the cadets who will compete in the Jean-Pictet competition (also teams going to Clara Barton and San Remo competitions). FYI: The Air Force team that competed in this year's Clara Barton competition in DC WON.

Hotel Sumski Feneri Restaurant/Bitola

It was still snowing that evening, so our meal in this warm and inviting restaurant was much appreciated

Food!! Wine!!/Bitola

We were exhausted and hungry, but had all of our needs met at our hotel, including help from the manager the next morning in dealing with the car rental company

We had a mountain view in a very comfortable room - love having a sitting area - with excellent wifi

Hotel Sumski Feneri/Bitola

After our ordeal/adventure in Brajcino and a delicious meal we fell into bed exhausted and slept like logs that night
