BOO YA!
I'd been home seven months people said I'd be straight back on the plane looking for a new adventure dreaming of the ozzie babes, beaches and the care-free lifestyle, I won't lie it crossed my mind, teaching in South Korea for easy money exploring the new cultures of the east Japan, China, wherever, and carrying on the rolling stone lifestyle was a definite pull!
But it wasn't real there is only so long you can ignore your head and listen to the crazy heart. Don't get my wrong I'm not done, nowhere near, just setting down some markers for a while. It took me six months a lot of reminiscing, feeling sorry for myself in bed, hours on call of duty but the turn of the new year I finally got to grips with reality. I started some post-grad courses when I came back in September but by November cared little about nothing - no goals, no direction and a lack of focus, life was passing me by as I lie in my bed like a pissed off ostrich with his head in the sand. Not knowing where your going and a fear of packing myself in a
box on a monotonous conveyor belt of life, maybe the choice for some, but for me it wasn't. Existing is one thing, living another, I wanted to make the most of my shot at life.
So the new year I trained got my head into the books and once again fell in love with my great home city of Cardiff and it's lovely Welsh charms. The fire came back into the eyes, set the football team back up and shook the cobwebs off my old set of friends and lit the touch paper for some exciting times ahead. A wrote my bucket list things I wanted to achieve by the end of my life and the ones I wanted by the end of this year, cultures, adventures and experiences played a key part.
Then one sleepy Sunday over my friend Steve's, my friend Ben flipped open his lap-top and with a little reminiscing of our crazy younger days in Ibiza and £54 later we had booked a trip to Lithuania - now we were talking! Random adventures to somewhere we knew nothing about and now I had some of my best hombres in tow, this was a good
start to 2011. Enough of my ramble about readjusting and more about Lithuania!
Fears of a third-world communist state by friends we totally unfounded, instead you had great gothic archtechture, fantastically friendly people and of course great food and nightlife. We set out with the best intentions a day of ice go-karting with husky rides and skidoos the next. Unfortunatly my excitment of hitting the road with three of my bezzie and the enticement of flaming absynes through a straw meant it was more of a scene from old skool.
We arrived late picked up a hire car in Kaunas and with my dogey borat syle english/russian accent and big grin found our way to the hostel. We ventured out in the -4 degrees led by a gabble of girls to a nightspot up the road. BANG-DIGGITY! If Carlsburg did nightclubs this would be the one in Vilnius a ration of 5-1 all impeccable looking girls with that eastern european eyes that would light up the darkest rooms we had arrived. WE started with beers but it was quite late and as the famous scholar alan from the hangover stated crazy shit happens when you get fucked up'
- so we did and by the end of the night (as the boys only brough out money for a few socails I had spend my entire money of the trip we drank, we lauged - we were back!
So was the stinking hangover, not the sprightly 21 year olds anymore but 27 and out of practice. We declared insted of all out actions a sightseeing day with consisted of us shuffling round the local markets metting locals and understanding some Vilnius history and local food (which was great!). WE headed back for a powernap some more grreat food and then got totally shitfaced again (a recurring theme of the trip). New clubs, more good laughs, more hungover.
Again, another sightseeing day, luckily for us there was alot of amazing things to see in Vilnius as we took in the views over the city. We had some fantasticly cheap food and driks at pizza time before you guessed it getting mangled one more time! It was one step to many for me as I paid for a lunch the next day which I kindly recycled bak into the resteraunt toilet system before watichning the boys go ice skating
then back to the airport.
Vilnius is a fantastic place not overrun by stag-do's and rowdy Engl%!h (while I love a drink and a dance I AM WELSH a totally differnt kellte of fish not to be associated with the loud mouth Engl#?h, strip club/brothel loving larger louts!). On reflection we all agreed we should have been more productive but we all got caught up in the euphoria of being away as mates again. Vilnius is a beautiful city unspoilt like some of the other destinations by the stag-do culture with excellent food and really friendly people always ready to help. Less than a week after being back we have booked a trip to Stockholm and the Bull-run in the summer - frygo's back for some more adventures meeting many more of your positive happy faces all over the shop.
Good to be back living the dream
Love
Frygo
