<em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Day 191 Wednesday 27th July 2016 – Tartu to Riga Easy day today, with us taking our time packing and checking out at 11.30. Had a walk through this pretty town again and then sat in the park for a while to enjoy the ambience. Ended up in one of the shopping malls and decided to catch a movie, and couldn’t believe that a movie ticket only costs... Read Full Entry

Perfect or grody?
Coming from a David Lynch, Disneyland town, I love them--can't be too perfect for me. No trash all around or touts, flamboyant Art Nouveau and restorations rather than replacing bombed-out buildings with modern concrete--count me in. And don't knock the little old ladies at their organ concert, I went for it when there. Here in Arequipa, Peru, they restored the cathedral's organ after 10 years of work, but they've no one to play it. Have to bring someone in from the capital--duh. But I loved Riga (and Arequipa), and so happy you did too, with those little caveats.

Arty Newview
Never understood what Art Nouveau meant till I came to Riga, but then again, maybe I still don't understand it. Riga is fabulous and you are right about no trash and touts, it is almost perfect.

Too perfect
I know what you mean about cities that are a little too perfect, with no grit to keep things real - Blue Velvet is a fabulous way to describe it! In case Shelley comes across that condescending 'sadly no black tea' man again, please let him know that a fruit flavoured drink is a tisane or an infusion, and not a tea. So therefore he had NO TEA. Grrr (on Shelly's behalf) :)

Mr Sadly gets sadder
Oh, it is just gets worse for poor Shelley with "Mr Sadly" but you will need to wait for the next blog for that one. We just cannot start a day without tea or coffee, and dealing with idiots first thing is like a red rag to a bull.

Riga sounds fabulous
I've decided this work stuff is overrated and we need to get back on the travel roads again. We'll have to plan something. I travel with decaf coffee as I can't have the caffeine for health reasons. I always ask if they have it just in case so I can extend how long my supply last. I get really strange looks in most countries. You know how a restaurant makes most of their money on alcohol? I think hotels make their money on laundry!

Where Next?
Work is well overrated, and that's why we try our best to avoid it. Good to hear you are getting itchy feet again, cannot wait to see where you end up travelling too. As for laundry it was so cheap on the last trip through South America so it is a real shock how expensive it is on this trip and the lack of laundromats
