What a rockin day! This soldiering stuff is the best, I can't believe I didn't try this earlier in my life. Poor Davina is over with her fellow planners writing operations orders and doing powerpoint presentations for the General's approval. Sounds like yucky stuff myself. I am most definately getting the good end of the stick.
Today training focus was "Combatives". Basically, how to defend yourself and take down somebody with your bare hands. Today I hooked up Davina's old unit that she went to Iraq with which was just a blast. They were very helpful and super friendly, so I think after we get to Kosovo I will hook up with them again and go out on some missions just for old times sake.
The instructors were very directive today. Said that their main goal was not to have anybody injure themselves and yet to ensure everyone has a great time during training. So we all stood around in a circle on the grass with our partners and step by step learn how to do all these moves that resembled actions out of a Bruce Lee movie. Chop chop here, grab and twist there, and then WHAM! fling
them onto the ground. Okay, maybe it wasn't that easy but after hours of practice it was all starting to come together.
Girls were twisting the arms of big brute men and taking them down like it was a piece of cake, little against big and the defenseless against the the mighty. It ended up being about the techniques learned and not about size at all. I learned that pressure points in the body are a key factor to controlling others actions.
I didn't get hurt today but my partner just about pulled my little arm right out of the socket on one of his fancy take down moves. Boy, that would have been quite the fuzzy mess! It was bad enough when one of the girls flipped me around and we got our feet tangled up and fell to the ground and she landed smack on top of me and knocked the wind right out of my sails. Don't think I lost consciousness, but I was sure sucking air trying to get my little body started back up after she pulled herself off me.
One of the funnest things I learned today was how to choke
people with their own collars of their very own shirts. Just grab up, cross your arms, spin around, twist real tight and drive your knuckles into their adams apple. Yippee! It's invigorating and they are immediately rendered weak and non-aggressive. Yup, I'm turning into quite the fighting machine! You should see me now...While Davina is over in this big building eating candy and drinking coffee while she pecks away on her computer, I am out here learning how to be combat effective. I am going to be a great soldier! Well, I know I can't truly be a "real" soldier, but I can still have a dream.
After today I'm not sure there can be anything funner to do in the army's arsenol of things to be trained on, but I will wait patiently and see what happens. Until tomorrow...
