Day 1 Another overnight ferry, a few trains later and we made it to Florence. Our B&B was a bit average but none the less it was livable... We made our way in to the centre and found the Duomo. Yep, pretty impressive! We climbed the couple of hundred steps to the top of the bell tower and the view was incredible! We wandered through the streets of Florence, fought our way through the market stalls (and I didn't buy ANYTHING! Not that I wasn't tempted...), found some gelati and then had a beautiful dinner. Of course we sat next to a table full of Aussies! We seem to always find the Aussies! Despite keeping our voices down they recognized the accent and we spent the rest of evening chatting to them.
Day 2 We got up early and headed to the Galleria dell'Accademia. We made our way through the museum and eventually found David. He is quite impressive! He had a pretty good set of tight buns on him and a couple of enormous...... hands! Lots of people checking him out! I wonder if when he defeated Goliath, David had hoped he would be remembered in some
incredible way. Probably not naked though and on display to the whole world!! He may have picked a warmer room... When we left we were glad we had got there early as the line to get in was around the corner!! We jumped on the sight seeing bus and headed up to Piazzale Michelangelo where we enjoyed the view over some coffee and pastries! We drove up the hill to Fiesole, a sweet little spot on the hill with a beautiful view of the tuscan hills! On the way back down, I fell asleep of course! I am told the rest of the tour was quite nice!
Day 3 Florence to Pisa to Cinque Terre We left Florence and jumped on the train again, this time heading towards Cinque Terre! We had to stop in Pisa though, so of course we checked out the tower! And yep, it's true, it's on a lean. It's so funny how many people are there taking pictures of themselves holding the darn thing up! So funny! And oddly enough an Asian wedding party having photos down in front of the tower! I am glad we didn't stay too long though as there
isn't much else to do! Lots of people selling rubbishy souvenirs, watches and handbags on the sidewalks! We had the best offer though from a restaurateur... "Pizza, Panini, Rolex!" how could we refuse! A genuine Rolex with lunch! Bargain!!
And off we went to Cinque Terre. We were staying in one of the 5 towns, Corniglia, the middle of the 5. It has no sea access but rather sits on top of the hill. We had a sweet little apartment, hilariously decorated, which looked out over the sea. Unfortunately it was at the top of one million stairs!! (trust me, I counted!). Supposedly a self-contained apartment... So when we bought something to drink we had to fight over who have the wine glass and who would get the beaker!! We spent the evening exploring our little village and planning our next few days.
