Jussy, Geneve, Switzerland.
Last minute on Thursday afternoon I booked a train to go see my good friend Jessie Bates who is a nanny in Switzerland. She had the weekend off and offered to have me come stay with she and her family, so Friday morning I left early on a train headed to Geneve, Switzerland. I had a two hour train ride from Firenze S.M.N. to Milano, then I switched trains in Milano and got on a 5 hour ride to Geneve, Switzerland. I got to Geneve late in the afternoon and when getting off the train, Jessie and I saw each other and SCREAMMMMED and hugged. I haven't seen her in 8 months and we were very close in high school. 3 months ago Jessie's father passed away from a heart attack and she was in Switzerland when it happened. She came back to the states for two weeks, however I still didn't have the opportunity to see her while she was home, so this trip meant a lot to me.
Jessie took me back to her house and introduced me to her family. The mothers name is Greet, the father is Herwig and their 4 children are
Elena, Marie, Louie and Henry. Wonderful/hospitable family that made me feel right at home. We sat out and had a bottle of wine with fresh melon later in the evening and around 10 Jessie took me out to a pizza place for a nice dinner. After dinner we just strolled around town and found a dance party going on in a park, so we danced around there for a while and eventually made it home.
Saturday we did all the touristy things! Longest bench in the world, life size chess game, tallest fountain in the world, train ride, flower clock... Jessie hadn't had any opportunities to do all this stuff since she's been there because all of her friends in Geneve already know all about it so she too was just as shocked as I was when seeing some things.
I picked a good weekend to come for there's a big celebration once a year in Jussy, Switzerland where they hold a miniature fair celebrating pigs! I'm still researching on WHY Jussy celebrates the pig but the fair was literally 3-4 blocks from Jessies families house. After doing all the touristy stuff Saturday afternoon, Saturday night we went and
ventured around the fair with Skylar, a friend of Jessies. They had swings that you stand in and propel yourself side to side, making yourself go higher but your STANDING. They had bumper cars, which I got a large bruise from on my knee, and they had a big tent for dancing, drinking and socializing. After doing bumper cars, Jessie, Skylar and myself went in and watched the dancing. In the corner of the large room we were in there seemed to be another room coming off of it, so we took a peek inside and found a DISCO! We hopped in there for a while, danced to some good music and eventually got tired and decided to leave.
We eventually got back to the general area of where we parked, only to realize that our car was gone... Jessie, Skylar and I were shocked. We walked back to the fair and found some firemen (the fire department was right next to this building/mess hall thing we were in) and we asked them if they knew what had happened to our car.
Fireman: "Oh, was your car the Passat?"
Jessie: "Yes... do you know where it is?"
Fireman: "Yea, that
got towed a while ago. Don't you live in the Jussy Chateau?"
Jessie: "Yes I do, where did my car get towed to?"
Fireman: "I don't know where your car got towed but the police do, I'll call them and they'll come and talk to you. Why didn't you buy a calendar this year?"
Jessie: "Excuse me? You mean, a firemen calendar?
Fireman: "Yes. You didn't buy one, why not?"
Jessie, Skylar and I were SHOCKED that the firemen were giving Jessie crap about not having bought a calendar for Christmas when we were just wanting to get the car back. Eventually the police showed up and they told us where the car was. It was a good 20 minute drive away, outside of Jussy. Jessie was insistent on getting the car back in the same night which I agreed with, but we had no way of getting there. Finally, after whining for a good 10 minutes, the policemen got tired of listening to us and told us they'd give us a ride to the towing place. We had to wait for 20 minutes for evidently a girl got her drink spiked in the disco and they had to
call an ambulance, so the police asked us to stick around until the ambulance came and then they would take us to the towing place.
20 minutes later the ambulance came, the girl got taken care of and the policemen politely opened the back doors for us and we climbed in. Before I knew it we were going 130 KM with the lights on, flashing. We got the towing place in a short 10 minutes and got Jessies car back. I felt terrible for Jessie had to pay 275 franc, which is 1/4 of her monthly pay. But we survived and were safe, which is all that matters.
Sunday we went back to the Jussy fair but walked from the house instead of parking and ran into some of the firemen, which politely waved and smiled at us. We watched the famous pig race and listened to some good music. Went home later for a nap, then out to dinner. Monday morning I woke up and helped Jessie with getting to the kids to school and feeding them lunch, then caught a train home. Got home late last night and enjoyed seeing the roomies and hearing of their own adventures
from this weekend.
May go to Cinque Terre this weekend, my only weekend left to really travel for all my other weekends are booked for other things. Jessie comes in a week in a half, then Germany to see Anna then a couple other weeks with other trips planned.
I love YOU allllllll! Ciao.
