Today we drove from La Spezia to Florence. We quickly found a very nice OLD hotel. The rooms were HUGE and had 20ft ceilings. It was a great spring day but a little windy. Many of the museums are closed on Mondays so there were slightly less tourist on the streets, which was nice. We walked around for a few hours. You can’t go far in Florence without bumping into some building or sculpture of major historical significance. It really is a beautiful city.
In the afternoon, Lisa went window shopping, Mo went a run and did laundry and Al just relaxed. After a nice dinner in a tiny little restaurant followed by gelato, we piled into the car to look for an internet café. We need to reserve our boat ferry tickets from Bari Italy to Greece and our hotel may be pretty but it has no wifi. One thing is for sure, the streets of Florence were not made for car the size of our Toyota land Cruiser. Add drunken kids and crazy locals on motor bikes and you get a night drive through Florence, Italy you will never forget.
Trivia-
Florence was founded by Julius Ceasar in 59 BC Florence.
The Gothic Cathedral Duomo is one of the world’s largest. Construction started in 1294 and it was consecrated 1436.
