Hi everyone,
We travelled to Cortona on the train yesterday and after a few translation problems got here in one piece. Couldn't catch the bus from Recoaro Terme due to a landslide, so one of the relatives, Silvano, took us along these back mountain roads with steep drops to meet up with the bus further down the mountain. Very scarey and I think that I will let Samantha sit in the front seat from now on....

After changes trains and actually finding the right platform we ended up in Arrezo and another change to get to Cortona. This very old town is extremely beautiful - very traditional built in the 14th centre. The town itself is surrounded by a stone wall used to protect from attack. I have taken lots of photo's and will download them next time I am on.

The food is fantastic - the wine even better. This morning Samantha discovered a chocolate shop that makes the best hot chocolate, it was just as if they had melted a block of choc in the glass.
Tomorrow we are planning to go to Assisi for the day and then Florence on Monday.

Returning to Recoaro mid week to plan for the big 18th birthday - relatives have informed me that they have it all under control...last count was 25 for pizza. Having a great time. Talk to you all soon.

Deb and Sam
