Roman alls
We filled in no toll roads and that was what we were driving. We crossed the German, French and Swiss border several times but is was an exceptional tour trough the mountains. The roads were good but not at all places. They are small with lots of curves and full of slow drivers. The German part was still good, but when we entered Italy, that changed to the worse. You need a lot of patience. The original speed limit in build-up places is 50 k.m. But that drags on for miles. Suddenly it changes to 70 immediately going to 90, Just at the moment you want to put your foot down it is 50 again. Frustrating. We had to go through the Mont Blanc tunnel and had to pay 43.50 Euro. Aosta is a nice little place with a lot of history. It was an outpost from the Romans. There are gates and porches from the time 22 B.C. That is the time of Caesar Augustus. In winter Aosta is a very big ski centre. You can ski the whole year around but you have to go right up the mountain to do it, there is still snow. A beautiful sight

from Aosta where you can see the snow glittering in the sunlight. Very inviting and in our younger years we certainly would give it a try. There is a Roman theatre in Aosta but it is mostly in ruins. When you walk through those ruins you ask yourself, what all happened between those enormous pieces of stone and marble. One thing here in Italy, nobody or nearly nobody speaks English. We asked for an ice coffee, never heard of it. It was the same as in Spain. We tried to explain, they nod their head and come back with a tea cup full with coffee ice-cream. We gave up and ate the ice cream. Apart from my little computer we have no idea what goes on in the world. Some T.V's have 999 channels, German and French but absolutely no English. We were in a small bed and breakfast, a Family setup. Very nice people. It shows as a Hotel when you book. Very clean and a very good breakfast. We have excellent weather some times a bit to warm but no complains. Tomorrow we have 350 or there about trip to Parma. Fun and games for we try not
