Dublin
Millenium spire, stiletto in the ghetto, the Pole in the Hole, the spike in the dike. dubliners aren't too fond of this and call in the biggest waste of 5 million in all of Europe., Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749
final reflections on Ireland
today was our last real day. We leave for home tomorrow morning. we are ready to go home, although it feels like we have been gone a lifetime. We kept up with email, but not with much of anything else. the TV channels here are terrible, not that we had much time to watch TV. We have tried to watch some of the Tour de France, but the graphics aren't as good. It is hard to tell the status of the various riders, which is usually on the bottom of the screen at home, plus all the narration is in French, which doesn't help.
today we mainly walked around seeing the sites of Dublin and did a little shopping, We have certainly done our part in contributing to the Celtic economy. we finally had to stop the madness...but there are so many unique and cute things here.
the first thing we had to do today was find a tiny screwdriver so we could put a new battery in Dee's pedometer (crisis). a nice man in an office supply store helped us out.
absolutely no rain today (so far). it tends to get cool as the day goes on instead
of warmer.
I have picked up two new favorite words. we are on holiday, not vacation. also, things are not nice or pretty, they are Lovely. I also can't order Soda anymore..that really throws them off.
the Irish people are incredibly nice and friendly. They love to ask where you are from, and they usually know that Missouri is somewhere int he middle of the country. today we had our second person of the trip ask if that is where the song came from. "Meet Me in St Louis". No we did not burst into song, but we offered to. the Irish people serve potatoes with everything (my kinda place), they purée their vegetables and they have lots of sheep.
we have to try to stuff everything back in our suitcases tonight. will be a challenge,
for our last dinner in Ireland, we ended up with the perfect dish...Irish beef and Guinness pie. Big hunks of tender beef simmering underneath a light flaky crust. Yumm. then we walked 3 miles round trip in the misting rain for gelato. we are definitely on Holiday.
last blog. thanks for sharing our adventures.
P.S. Some little leprechaun fixed our toilet today, It is flushing properly all of a
sudden.
Dot's notes: ready to go home & start eating like a real person. I love pastries & potatoes as much as anyone, but good grief! People here are vey nice, but they need better toilets and more trashcans. Great dark chocolate and gas mileage, but shitty drinks and roads. Great scenery and animals, but I feel like I am either stepping in poop or smelling it all the time. Dublin seemed much cleaner than I imagined, but tinier. All in all, a great time, with fun stories to remember.
