Hard to believe we've only been away for a few days - already seen so many things!!
Flew out of Gatwick airport into Dublin and arrived at our accommodation around 2pm local time (in our little Citrion hire car), which meant plenty of time to do some sightseeing. After settling in to our cosy room at Harvey's Guesthouse (family run B&B close to all the action), we walked through the city centre to the very cool Temple Bar area. The streets were buzzing with music and merry people everywhere...no doubt with a pint or two already under their belts on a sunny Friday afternoon 😊
Had a lovely meal and a drink at The Old Storehouse, whilst enjoying music from a local singer / guitarist (Mylo) - check out the video of him attached to this blog!! From there we found our way to the beautiful Trinity College and took our time walking the grounds.
By the time we got back to our room, having been up very early to get to Ireland, we were knackered - watched some local tv (loving the Irish accent) and both fast asleep by 10:30pm.
We lucked out with the weather again on Saturday - sunny and 20.
An awesome breakfast buffet was provided by our host Georgie - this was included in the cost of our accommodation and we certainly ate our monies worth!! First stop for the day was The Old Jameson Distillery - well worth doing the tour! Both of us have a new found appreciation of Irish whiskey...of course we got to sample some at the end. You can expect to see me drinking Jameson more often! 😊
We went on to visit Dublinia (museum covering the history of Dublin including the Viking era, mediaeval times and archaeology in Dublin), the Dublin Castle, St. Patrick's Cathedral and finally the amazing Guinness Storehouse. Aside from the standard touristy stuff, we also got to see a fair bit of Dublin, due to navigational issues - we had the crappiest map guiding us around and frequently found ourselves off course. A lot of people seem to speed here and pedestrians use crossing signals as a guide only - plus the traffic signals are weird...the orange light flashes and means start going instead of start stopping. Anyway, everyone has been very friendly and helpful - hopefully the rest of Ireland will be this enjoyable 😊
We finished our last night in Dublin with a meal at a place called Hemmingway's, out in the coastal suburb of Clontarf.
Tomorrow we head off on a road trip to Galway for one night then Kilkenny for two nights and finally, one night in Wexford!!
Tour de Ireland for the Bradford sisters 😊 😊
