Ireland’s Treasure is its People

This is an account of a wonderful Friendship Force Tour of Ireland in March 2012 (March 13 through 25
th). My role is to coordinate the blog and write the introduction and last day. It is a collaborative blog and as such, we get to see various locations of Ireland through different peoples’ eyes. On behalf of all of the Ambassadors on the trip, thank you to Laurie Anne S. and Alan Wilkinson at
PhoenixTravelCo@aol.com for putting it all together. I would also like to thank Cathy O. for editing the blog. While I received a good education, I am not always capable of demonstrating it. In regard to the pictures in the blog, I would like to thank everyone who sent me pictures. I have tried to choose pictures that represent the area being discussed on that particular day and have had to skip some absolutely stunning shots.
The official symbol of Ireland is a harp; it is also the symbol of Guinness Beer - patriotic or insightful marketing? While the Irish have great respect for the truth, they are wary of it intruding on a
good story. Their often-pithy remarks can put an issue in prospective or a person in their place. They are delightful, warm and wonderful hosts.
The Irish love their words and rhymes. The following are a few examples:
-The Song Molly Malone (fish monger and prostitute) - The tart with the cart or sellibit here, sellibit there
-Statue of a Women reclining - the Flossie in the Jocose
-Friendship - they are so close you couldn’t get fresh air between them
-James Joyce - “Women are to Love, not Understand”
-Mutual Benefit - “It walks both ways”
-Trapped Wind - A fart about to be born
-Statuary Ship - The Never Budge
-Irish ABCs - "Another Blessit Church”
-Angel’s Share - The liquor that evaporated in the aging process
-It can be an invitation or a warning
-William of Orange, the winner of the Battle of Bonge, gave Ireland to England and turned it Protestant. The loser, James the II, is known as James the Turd.
I hope you enjoy the blog half as much as I enjoyed exploring Ireland with a great group of people.
