My fun filled weekend started off with an 8 am bus to Dublin with Sammi and Kyle. When we arrived in the city, we found the information office and got a map right away so we didn't get lost. Right down the street was a Carroll's. These stores are the most touristy places I have ever seen. It is a huge gift shop. There was so much green everywhere. I found some shamrock boxer shorts there and I love them. We decided to make our way over the the Guinness Factory Storehouse. On the way we stopped at a little cafe for lunch. We figured that because it wasn't busy and was a small place it would be good food. Boy were we wrong. The owner asked for Kyle's order 4 times and then when we got our food, I didn't even get exactly what I ordered. But it was still alright. After that we made our way to the Factory. Our route took us down a lot of really sketchy streets, pint of Guinness, but then we finally made it to the entrance. The street going it was beautiful. It was brick and the buildings surrounding the street were stone. We got
in line and the wait was 2 hours. Thankfully the Factory was giving away free Hot Chocolate and Face Painting. Kyle and I got sparkly Shamrocks and Sammi got a pint of Guinness. When we got inside, it told us about the process of making Guinness, but it wouldn't tell the secret ingredient. What a rip off! Then I got to learn how to pour the perfect pint of Guinness. I have a certificate and everything! I then finished my first Guinness and hid the glass in my bag! Guinness isn't exactly the best thing I have ever tasted, but it's part of the experience so I made myself finish it. After the Factory, we went to go meet Tom and Nick. We walked over to O'Connell Street, which is the main street of the city. We ran into Sara and Gina which we thought wasn't going to happen because Sara's phone had died. We then ate some Thai food for dinner. After that we walked around the city a little more and got on a bus to our hotel. The hotel was awesome. The girls all went to the Sauna together and then headed up to shower and go
to sleep. I haven't slept in a bed that nice in a long time.
We woke up and it was St. Patrick's Day! We got all our green garb on and everyone besides me started drinking. We got into the city at 8:30. Apparently, alcohol cannot be served before Noon. Everyone was trying to get Irish Coffees in the morning but the couldn't. We got some breakfast in a little cafe in the Temple's Bar. i ordered a Smoothie which they served me in a Guinness pint glass. We then went to the Parade where I met Reed's Mom, Jackie, and her friend, Pat. It was the most unique experience. There were so many weird and interesting costumes. I think the groups reenacted stories that I don't know because one of the groups was depicting an expedition with a whale and a sinking ship. I wish I was more aware of what was going on. The marching bands were fantastic! I've never seen so many drum and pipe bands in one place before! I loved listening to all the music. There was even a pipe band from New York! After the parade, we headed to the Porter house. The
bar was specialty bar and had their own beers and didn't serve the usual brands. I got a Strawberry Beer which Reed's Mom bought for me. It was really good. The bar was 4 stories and really packed. After we left, we went to go get burritos. Then we went to Bad Bob's Bar. I took a shot of Jameson with the group and socialized. Then Sara, Sammi, and I took the bus home. We took the guy's bags with us so that they didn't have to carry them around. That was not a good idea because Kyle forgot his insulin and had to come home anyway to get it.
Then on Monday, we took a trip to the Castle that was a 10 minute walk from my house. It was so beautiful and green. The view was amazing and it was a great day to finish off the weekend.
