...gorgeous! We take a bus to Budapest & arrive around two. Our accomadation got screwed up but we find a place on our 2nd attempt. Budapest is split in two by a river, Buda & Pest. We stay on the Pest side. It is not quite what we had imagined & seems very similar to the countries we have already been to. This is a shame because we wanted to see it before it commercialised too much. Apparently Hungary is know as the Paris of the East & it is not hard to see why.
We spent three lazy nights in Budapest, with the highlights being our walks around the city, the markets (for Di !) & the thermal baths.
It is a big place & hard to see on foot, but we gave it a good crack. There are about 7 bridges connecting Buda & Pest so you just choose one & escape to the other side. We check out the Palace & get a great view of the river, & both sides of it.
The thermal baths were great. There were hot & cold, indoor & outdoor pools, massage rooms & saunas. We shared our time between
inside & out. It was a perfect day & we did our best to rid ourselves of our pasty glows. There was also a wave pool outside which was pretty cool.
Di fell in love with markets & in particular some little wooden eggs that she bought a truckload of.... (4) ! I'm not quite sure what she has planned for them ???
We spent our nights at the bars watching soccer. We sat next to a German guy during their loss to Italy & in the end he stormed out leaving half a beer on the table - unbelievable !
All in all, Budapest wasn't anythıng like we expected (it was far too normal) but we had a good time anyway. Those 10 cent beers that İ had heard about didn't eventuate & most prices were alligned with the rest of the EU.
