I woke up for a jog because the sunlight streaming in through the window was beckoning me outside. Since we were scheduled to have dance practice that evening I wasn’t sure if I would have another chance to enjoy the gorgeous weather. After I returned and had breakfast, we met in Dora’s living room to start practice. Before we started Kaspars K handed me a note and told me to read it to the team. The letter had a list of tasks we had to perform as a group. Each task was assigned to a particular person and was attached to a clue directing the person to find different pieces of paper hidden through out the house. For example the paper said, “Kaspars B do 100 push ups and find a note hidden under one of the plants on the ground floor.” After we collected all the pieces of paper, together they read, “Come to car.” We met Kaspars K out by the van.
Side note: We have two vehicles in which we tour. One is a white VW (that we refer to as the LT - which carries the equipment) and the other is a blue Caravelle.
Kaspars
greeted each of us with blindfolds and had us promise not to even try to peek at where we were driving. He drove like a madman, turning in all sorts of directions to confuse us. Then he had each of us get out of the van and hold hands as he guided us. When we got to our destination he lined us up and on three we all together took off our blindfolds. When we took them off we were standing in front of a huge selection of gelato. Afterwards we got back to the house he stopped the car and told us to go grab our money and then return to the van. Once more, he blindfolded us insisting we make the same promise as before. This time as he was leading us blindfolded to our destination we could hear lots of voices around us and we knew we were in a public place. He had us stop while he paid for something and as we waited we had to massage the person in front of us. Once again he lined us up and counted to three. One three we removed our blindfolds and found ourselves staring at a
huge aquarium with sharks and various fish. I think the whole team really enjoyed getting to just hang out with each other and take a break from dancing after so many concerts in a row.
After the aquarium we returned to the house and to get down to business for a little while. After each concert we collect answer cards, from people who desire more information about Jesus Revolution. We have to type all of these cards into our online database. So we all headed to an internet café together to try and get all the cards typed in. It was a little difficult being in a dark room typing when we knew the sunshine was calling us outside. Thankfully we finished in just a couple of hours.
At this point I still had not showered but it was already 4 in the afternoon and Talitha, Beat and I decided we had better head into the city right then or else it would get too late. So we hopped on the 30 minute train once again. This time we had a plan to go straight to the largest mall in the city. After torturing Beat in the mall
we decided to look for a place to eat. We went against Beat’s request for McDonalds and found a cute Greek restaurant. God blessed us with live music and incredible food. Talitha taught Beat how to salsa dance (even though it wasn’t really salsa music). We had a really great time, so good in fact that when Beat looked at his watch he realized we only had about 40 minutes to make the last train back to Dora’s place. We quickly paid then sprinted to the metro station. The tickets booths were all closed so we went to the automated ticket station. The automated system only accepted coins and we only had notes. Since we didn’t have much time we decided just to go ahead and get on the metro, taking our chances. As we were transferring from one metro to the other I started running to make sure we made the next metro. When we got to the final metro I looked at the time it was expected to come and knew we probably would miss the final train. As the other two walked up they were followed by a man in black who asked to see Beat’s metro
ticket. Beat replied to him in Swiss German but the man insisted he speak English saying he heard Beat speaking English earlier. We handed him our tickets from earlier in the evening but of course those didn’t work. Talitha tried playing dumb but that only started making the man mad. Then I told him I had tried to buy tickets but that the machine only took coins. He told me I should’ve know that I should go to the top floor and that a person was in the information booth. He picked up his phone and said he would call the police unless we paid him 2500 HUF (or about $12) each and if the police came we would have to pay 7000 HUF each. As much as I would’ve liked another run in with the police I finally gave in and paid the fine (Devon - a little bit of déjà vu from this summer in Paris?). Once our last metro rolled into the train station we ran out and took the steps two at a time only to find that we missed last train, just as the previous night by 5 minutes. Unfortunately this time there were no
more trains. We were planning what we should do when we remembered the rest of our teammates had been planning on coming into the city with the Caravelle. We called and thankfully they were still in the city. So after that adventure we made it safely home. The three of us decided on a nickname, "The Adventure Circle." More adventures to come, I am sure!
