Hi All!!!
Well the start of the next adventure had finally arrived!! I hadn’t been excited in the slightest in the lead up to the trip as work has been twice as hectic as usual!!
Mum took me to the airport and we had some lunch then it was finally time to go to boarding and my gate was half way to China, or at least it felt like it anyways!
The minute I boarded the plane I knew that it was going to be all bad, there was absolutely no in-flight entertainment - I was sooooo cursing Thai Airways and my travel agent!!! (Just jokes Roh!) So I decided that there was only one thing to do ‘Make sleeping tablets my friend!!!’ I read awhile and finally fell asleep and woke up a few hours later, which was good - first leg went by reasonably painlessly. I ate heaps, drank some more and then started talking to a lady called Julie, who was next to me on the plane, for about the last hour which was nice.
Once in Bangkok I couldn’t find my connecting flight on the screen (even if it had have been there
I probably wouldn’t have found it since I forgot my glasses!) so had to line up and ask. Met up with a friend of mine who was also travelling through Bangkok, got a shower in the Qantas club which was great, that broke the trip up nicely! Note to self, must join Qantas Club!!!
I was feeling pretty good to near departure time but it was sooo hot in the airport and my thongs (for those of you who aren’t Aussies, I’m talking about my shoes!!) were giving me blisters!!
Took ages to board and had to catch buses to plane, as I think Thai still flies out of an old terminal. I was dying in my long sleeve light cotton top, it was soooo humid!
Next leg of the journey here I come!!!!
Arrived just after 7am in Athens, met two lovely girls on the plane who were needing some help on where to go and what to do so they came through the gates with me and met Arty!! After she helped them out with some information and instructions we made our way back to her place.
I was sooo happy to see
her!! it's almost a year exactly since I saw her last, but after catching up, it felt like no time had passed at all!! but damn have I missed you my girl!!!
Her place is amazing!! 3 levels and a great view!! I could sooo live there happily forever.
Managed a shower and came down to my awaiting Frappe!! Which was to be the first of many for my holiday! Then unloaded the Tim Tams, Burger Rings, Twisties and Caramelo Koalas that I schlepped half way across the world for my host!
Then it was back to the airport for the short 30 minutes flight, which even though not overly cheap, was a small price to pay to avoid an 8 hour slow ferry and arrive in Paradise that much sooner!! And not to mention that the pilot was hot! And since he landed the plane smoothly, we can only assume talented too!! Hehe!!
After arriving in Paradise we met Nick at the El Greco Hotel (also hot!!) and then checked into our room! Amazing!! I couldn’t wait for this week to begin! Met Pano and Maria who would become our best friends over the next
week, attending to all our cocktail and food needs and trust me, we kept them busy!! Hehe!!
Best thing about having Arty aboard is that all the things we are doing have all been tried and tested by Arty!!
We caught up with Sarah, Jason and Kerren and all went out for dinner. Everyone I met on this trip was amazing, such great people who made it a trip to remember.
Manage to drag ourselves out of bed the next day for breakfast - which was always huge and a miracle we got there!!!! We were so full afterwards that we were sure we wouldn’t need lunch. We sunbaked, and I read my book, drank wine and I was truly sure that I was in paradise… the more we drank, the louder we got in the spa playing our cork games, we even made the kids jealous that we were entertaining ourselves and making bunches of noise… we didn’t quiet realise how much until we finished our game and went back to our sun beds and all was still!
There were a few interesting people staying at the same resort, to say the least… my personal
favourite was the ancient lady from Austria who’s skin was like old boot leather and she was about 70 in the shade, sunbaked topless occasionally and clearly was at one with nature and didn’t feel the need to shave… damn!!! under arm hair that you can plait! What the?!?!
After a very harsh day by the pool we had a shower and went to Franco’s Bar to watch the Sunset behind the volcano. Nikki arrived today, who is an absolute star, when Nikki’s around it’s never dull or quiet!! From her array of noises and her boy c c’s !! hehe!!
They say that the volcano will erupt in 10 years time… I hope for Santorini that that doesn’t happen, and I definitely hope that I’m not around to see it!
The eruption of Santorini in Greece in 1650BC was one of the largest in the last 10.000 years. About 7 cubic miles (30 cubic km’s) of Rhyodacite magma was erupted. The plinian column during the initial phase of the eruption was about 23 miles (36km high) the removal of such a large volume of magma caused the volcano to collapse producing the caldera.
It’s sooo
Arty & I!
The way we always are!! drinking!! beautiful at sunset time in paradise that’s it’s difficult to tell where heaven stops and the world beings… whilst slipping a long island ice tea and listening to Vivaldi - Four Seasons, and watching the light fade and the lights come on at the hotels and restaurants on the cliff face.
After the sun set we headed to Koo Bar where they gave us a bottle of vodka and all the mixes to go with it and you serve yourself at the bargain price of 100 euros!!! The atmosphere was great with the comfy couches and open roofs in the warm nights.

Unbelievable
Ahhhhh happy dirty and dusty island....... :) Can't believe you put that photo of me in the house with my slippers!! And so many wonderful photos of the view from my balcony are still on your camera somewhere. Oh well - tried your best. I suppose its all important that everyone finally realises the truth about The Greece: "Like Here, Nowhere" :)
