Mykonos=
We arrived here very very tired, having arrived at Athens Airport at midnight, where we slept on the floor and then caught the bus to Pireaus for the slow ferry to Mykonos. We were able to sleep on the ferry. It was raining when we arrived at Vienaoulos Garden Hotel. But the weather has cleared and now we are having clear near perfect days.

Mykonos is very sterile, its so perfect, lots of jewellery shops. Full of rich Italians and Greeks wearing white and smoking.

We hired a quadbike and made a tour of the island, this restored our faith in travel. It was a brillant day. Went to Shirley Valentine Beach. Having lots of lovely Greek food. Trying to go for a jog most days. Rob has discovered Tzaki dip. The wines are very good.

SANTORINI:
After four nights we sailed in the rain to Santorini. Again we had a bad start. Not much information about the place. But somehow we made it to Stellios Rooms at Oia. The room overlooks the Caldera. It is so beautiful. We stayed here for 3 nights and then moved up the road (some 120 metres) to Amelomolios Hotel.

Now this is absolutely fantastic.

We are in an self contained apartment with 2 big balconies. One overlooks the Caldera and the smaller one looks over to Ios. The sunsets are just fantastic. We are cooking up a storm. The butcher is so funny. He sits at the counter smoking. You order your meat. He stubs out his cigarette. Gets out the slab of meat and cuts it with great gusto and then wraps it up in paper. But its the greatest meat.

We are staying at the apartment for 7 nights and then to the party island of Ios. That's us all over.

Santorini is very very nice. Although there can be up to 7 big cruise boats in the harbour, it feels almost deserted in Oia. We have gone into the main town of Fira and its OK. Transport is easy and cheap with big luxury buses (surplus from the 2004 Olympics) to take you around the island.

The whole island is made of volcanic rock. We have walked the 11 kilometres along the rim of the caldera, Lena walked the whole way. Not bad for little 7 year old legs. When we got

to Fira, we found the world's best icecream. So yummy. we all have 2 each of rich chocolate profiterole icecream. It made the hard 3 hour walk worthwhile.
