(DEUTSCH UNTEN)
Hello again, I've had a break from kebabs and switched to Gyroses! Yes I'm hopping the Greek Islands and currently on Ios. It's strange, I don't feel like I'm backpacking because everything is running smoothly, no stress, and I found that once a day I'm lying on a beach(one day sleeping there overnight). And even though it might be rocks for sand, it's still relaxing. The only mistake I made was pre-booking a ferry from Marmaris to Rhodes. Why? Becauae I was in Olympos so I had to catch a bus back to Antalya then to Marmaris. All up it was a 7.5hr bus ride. If I had winged it, then I would of found out from the people in Olympos that I could of gone to Fethiye(1.5hr bus ride) then catch a ferry to Rhodes. Oh well woulda, shoulda, coulda right? But it was funny to arrive in Marmaris then see that England had invaded it. I thought I was walking the streets of London again. The nightlife was insane there, it was mainly an alley with open bars (everything outside) on each side. There were Chav's(Pom chicks) dancing on bars, people taking shots in the middle of
the alley, lasers, deafening music, and of course that Pommy accent EVERYWHERE! Anyway half a day and a nightlife was enough for me there so it worked out ok. I started to feel a bit sick on the choppy seas between Marmaris and Rhodes but just slept and it was all good. I spent the day in Rhodes and for me it was enough for a taste but I think if I had another couple of days I would of seen more than just the city and an empty harbour where a heaps big statue used to stand(1 of 7 World Wonders?). The overnight ferry(or more like cruise ship) from Rhodes to Santorini was so PIMPIN' man! I knew it from the escalator in the ferry to go to the main area. Inside was wooden finished and every gadget and comfortable seats everywhere. I instantly spotted a massive lounge and shotgunned it for my bed haha. Then I looked at my ticket and realised I paid an extra 2.50€ for something called "air tickets". When I booked the tickets online I had imagined a small ass ferry sitting outside on the deck sleeping on plastic chairs in the sleeping bag
inner and waking up with a sore neck! Nope. The air tickets was just a section with reclining seats and a movie type screen at the front playing a Greek series of "the Nanny". That was heaps weird. It was like a paranormal world or something, I was flipping out at this lady, looking like "Fran Fine" with the same whining voice but in Greek. I had also taken my shoes and socks off to relax and went to sleep in a comfortable chair. The lady next to me woke me up to ask me if I could put my shoes back on, because a rat had died in my shoes and the smell of it all was causing her to wrinkle her nose and cough. I put my shoes back on. 5 minutes later she moved to the back of the room where plenty of empty seats were. As I took the hint and giggled to myself, I took my shoes off and gave them a wiff. Whhooaaaa man I'm telling you I felt sorry for the lady. It was as if I had just dunked my own head in a dunny(toilet) full of dead animals, fecies, & rotten
food (very similar to my last day of school prank). I went straight to the toilets with thongs on and threw my shoes into a plastic bag, then that into another, then one more! I left my socks in the toilet for some poor cleaner to discover. I scrubbed my feet with soap, then baby wipes, hygiene gel, then the last step was deodorant. The Traveller shower worked a wonder. I returned and realised that from the day at the beach in Olympos, I had my shoes on walking through water, then they dried on the bus to Marmaris(6hrs), then I slept on the beach there, and then onto Rhodes for the day. No wonder they stunk! But I am quickly learning about hygiene while travelling as I also started to get kebab pimples. Santorini was a nice choice - thanks to Mumma. I hired out a Scooter for 2 days and that was seriously the only way to see the island(the Quadbikes were so slow that they caused traffic problems). I rode around the whole island while seeing (of course) famous Oia, Fira, Ancient Thira, Perissa, & other little towns along the way. My thongs broke so you'll all
be happy to hear, that I didn't even try or think to repair them with cable ties. Instead I found a cheap pair in a grocery store. Sunset in Oia was also very nice to witness, as well as the big flock of people waiting there. I'll never understand though why people clap when the sun finally set. It's the same when people clap when a plane lands?!? Is that normal? I don't think so. It's as if people expect a pilot to crash, or to be dumb. Or the sun to stay there, or blow up(maybe 21st December 2012). I'd like to see people clap when someone correctly parks in a space or something because that's rare these days! I also keep meeting people as I go, so it's hardly ever lonely. I'm currently contemplating whether I should throw my jumper and long pants out. I haven't even touched them since I packed them, and with the rest of Turkey to explore, & then Egypt - that's already 2 months before I land in India and clothes are cheap there. I'll finish the blog thinking about the decision. One last thing to mention is that when you arrive at
the ports there are so many people trying to get you to stay at their Hotels! It looked like someone famous was arriving and everyone had signs yelling... Greece really is almost bankrupt!
DEUTSCH:
Shamamoi.
