After spending a few days in Preveza we decided to really extend ourselves and go to Vonitsa (about a 2 hr sail), which is in the Amvrakikos Gulf, for a few days. Vonitsa is a quaint little town on the mainland, with the remains of a big, old fort overlooking it.
Our few days extended to a week... It was really nice just chilling and we did a few chores - sometimes. Our routine consisted of a late rise, breakfast, lunch and then sundowners at our 'local' taverna Remezzo's. Then dinner and another late night. Oh, I forgot - there was always an afternoon nap too! All very tiring. I'm sure you can understand why we needed a week there! ?
However, I did manage to do my first bit of exercise - about a 5km run. Twice! Whoo hoo!
On one of those runs I came across a gypsy encampment, which is always interesting to see. And one night some gypsies camped in the car park opposite the boats. The next day Kevin saw them packing up and he was very impressed to see one of the girls picking up all their litter - until she threw
it all over the wall, out of sight!
Yesterday we decided to head back to Preveza as Hilary, Neil's partner, is flying in on Sunday for a week. So I hastened into town to buy some bread for the long journey back. There I discovered that the Olympic flame was being run through Vonitsa a few hours later. Of course we stayed for that.
There was great excitement in the town, with a brass band marching up and down and much waving of Greek flags and olive branches. And I even got to hold the Olympic torch! ?
So, here we are back in Preveza a day later than scheduled, but still in time to see Hilary tonight!
Tomorrow we head south to the islands!
