Tuesday (20-09-’11)
First day on our own without anything being organized through ESN. So what do girls do? Shopping!
I went with Helene to Syntagma, there is one big shopping street. I bought 2 shirts, a pants, nailpolish and lipstick for those of you who are interested :p
At night, we had a little party on the Balcony at Lora’s place which was a lot of fun. On my walk there however I fell into a hole on the sidewalk (a combination of no streetlights, a lid being gone and my clumsiness :p). It hurt really bad in the beginning but I’m fine now, there is a large bruise though.
Thursday (22-09-’11)
I spent my day with Helene, the metros, taxis and trams were striking so we couldn’t go far.
First, we went Omonia square and walked around a little. Afterwards we went to the National Archeological Museum which is very close to my apartment. It’s a nice museum but for a history junky like me (not) I mostly just walked through and looked around without knowing a lot about the items.
Friday (23-09-’11)
I spent my morning partly being lazy and also cleaning my apartment because this was
the day my parents were arriving. When they were 2 hours late I was starting to doubt if my phone was working, this was the moment Didier called me. I picked up but was too late, then there was a knock on the door. I thought my parents maybe just came to my apartment because they couldn’t reach me and they let Didier call me. But no, I looked through the hole in my door and saw a very familiar shirt, I opened my door and couldn’t believe what was happening! Didier was right in front of me while I was thinking I still had 2 months in front of me missing him. And the lovely Pieter Schaaps came with him😉 I think this was the best day yet😉
After a while my parents finally arrived too and I showed them around a little. This was also the moment Miriam arrived (our Spanish roommate). I felt guilty I couldn’t spend some more time with her but she was very tired anyway.
In the evening, we ate at my parents hotel next to the pool with a view of the Acropolis. The food wasn’t that amazing but we had a good
time.
Afterwards me, Didier and Pieter went back to the apartment and drunk a little with Tanais and her boyfriend who was visiting too.
Saturday (24-09-’11)
I went to visit the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus with my mom and dad, we also went to Syntagma where the parliament is situated and walked around in the streets.
In the evening Didier, Pieter my parents and I went to Mikrolimano at the harbor, they have nice restaurants with fresh fish there. We ate a delicious meal (the best yet!), it was the first time I tried octopus! When I have some money to splurge, I’ll definitely go there again! After a long walk we finally found the metro station and went home.
Sunday (25-09-’11)
In the morning, I went for a walk with my parents to Omonia and ate lunch at their hotel. Afterwards, it was time to say goodbye. I was so glad Didier and Pieter were still here because I felt a little down afterwards.
I went to catch up with them at the Olympic site, there are some pretty amazing buildings! The sad part is that it looked kind of deserted, the area isn’t used
very often and the Greeks are mad about that because it cost them a lot of money. We could even go down to the Olympic swimming pool, so of course Pieter and Didier couldn't resist to dive in😉
In the evening, we went to Gazi to go out. The pre-Mykonos party was also there.
Monday (26-09-’11)
Didier, Pieter and I spent a lazy day at the beach with Tanais and her boyfriend. The busses and metros were striking so we had to take a cab but it was worth it!
In the evening, I ate my first pita. It was pretty good, especially for the price of €2! Afterwards we drank a few drinks at the apartment with Miriam.
Sunday (27-09-’11)
We went to the meat, fish and vegetable market. It was already in the afternoon so we didn’t trust the meat and the fish because it had been lying there in the hot weather all day but we did buy some vegetables and olives.
In the evening, we climbed Lykavittos Hill. There is a beautiful view of whole Athens from the top, we sat on a bench there and drank some beers with olives and nachos.
Afterwards,
Didier made risotto with souvlaki, it was delicious! Too bad he can’t cook for me every day:p
Monday (28-09-’11)
In the morning I had to say goodbye to Didier and Pieter. Afterwards I slept a little more and watched some series. It was good I couldn’t think about it too much because we were leaving for the Mykonos trip the next day!
Sorry for the lack of blogging but i'll get back on track😉
