Dip
Romantic dip or are we dips? So last night was a great celebration in honor of our 5 year anniversary. We were able to spend a wonderful day visiting the Louvre and Musee Rodin. I can't believe we got to see Mona Lisa, The Thinker, and The Kiss, all on our special day! I definitely won't forget it!
We left in the evening to celebrate our anniversary in Paris, and got to eat dinner at that lovely cafe that we had spent the day prior. We had a great dinner, and I had view of two of my favorites in the world: my husband and the Eiffel Tower. It was a great setting, we had great food and great conversation. We left to go see the Tower at around 7:30, even though I was worried we would miss the sunset. We made it to the other side of the Tower, where MANY crowds congregate to watch the Tower light up for the night. We were able to see the Eiffel Tower light up, took a couple quick pics, and ran down to get in line to go up. (Remember in this story, I was wearing 4 inch heels the whole night, and Cheston was wearing dressy
My two favorite sights
Chet and the Eiffel Tower. shoes, not one of our smarter moves.)
We had bought a bottle of wine in Beaune to crack open on our anniversary, and since the restaurant we ate at didn't allow us to bring our own, we figured we would crack it open down on the grass, after we went up to the top of the Tower. As we waited in line to go to the top, I realized that the large bottle of wine in my little backpack probably wouldn't be allowed, since they were searching bags. Sure enough, the man told us they weren't allowed, even though I pleaded with him that it was our anniversary. He told us we could go hide it in the bushes. Anyone who has been there, knows the masses of crowds, vendors (who can tend to be pretty shady) and then....shady people, and tourists. So Chet ran over and hid it to the best of his ability in the shadows by one of the benches by the Tower, as onlookers looked baffled, he explained, "They won't let me take it up!" They smiled and nodded and we figured the bottle of wine was as good as gone in the next few minutes.
Tower at night
Beautifully lit. We ended up having to shrug and go on with our night, and went up to the top. The crowds for the elevator that takes you up are massive, but alas, there was a window open or air conditioning in it, so that really was a blessing! We got to see the amazing view from the top and then decided to head back down, by taking the stairs. The lines for the elevator back down were really long. So two hundred and something stairs, and hour or an hour and a half (total elevator, viewing and returning time)later, we made it to the bottom. OUCH for our feet. We figured we would go see if the wine was left, and if it was not, "some guy had a great bottle of wine instead of a cheap 40..." And there stood our little bottle. We laughed and decided to go drink some of it on the lawn. Funny thing was, we weren't the only ones with the idea. About a few hundred other people were all doing the same thing. There were vendors out selling bottles of wine and champagne. We sat down, took off our shoes and enjoyed the rest
Us and Tower
Better get used to every pose in front of the Tower...=) of our anniversary under the Eiffel Tower drinking great French wine. My favorite part was watching them lite the glittery lights on the Tower, for it looked like one big anniversary candle.
We decided to head back to the Metro to take the train home, around quarter to 1 a.m. Well, the Metro shut down about 4 minutes before our last train left, so we ended up finding a cab which was surprisingly a very short and CHEAP ride home! Every penny worth it for our poor feet! =)
Today, we drove back to Koblenz, happy to say, "Au Revoir!" to the expensive toll booths, crazy traffic, and poorly marked streets. I couldn't help but feel a slight pull of nostalgia, both that our beautiful trip was coming to an end and that we had to say goodbye to sweet Paris. It was hard not having my Grandma and Grandpa here, because this trip is exactly how they would have wanted it to be, right down to celebrating our marriage in Paris. Paris was wonderful and a little emotional too. No matter what, Paris, well, the Eiffel Tower was my favorite place we visited and it was hard
Tower
Up close. to leave. But the thought of our dogs, our home, our family, friends, and church awaiting us, makes it that much easier to look on this vacation and be able to head back to "real life." It was a real blessing, but we are definitely agreeing that "there's no place like home..."

Wow
GREAT pics of Paris and the tower! But who is that bearded Euro that Kat is taking intimate pictures with? :-) I went to check on Gidget and Velz under the guise of buying New York Life Insurance. Stevie is taking good care of them. Glad to see you are enjoying a great trip. Looking forward to your return!
