Morning: Woke up at 10am this morning and we decided to take our breakfast when we go out to the city. Left at abt 12pm and walked all the way to the town area. We have to cross 2 big rivers of Bremen and the sights are pretty.
Afternoon: We were getting quite hungry so we stopped at the usual quick bites Doner Durum and ordered a chicken wrap and it was really huge and filling. After that we started our tour of the town and entered the St Petri Dom (St Peter's Church) which looks really huge inside w beautiful interiors. Bought some nice postcards from the shop inside and walked thru their free museum which is pretty interesting. We stepped out and walked past the Stadhuis and finally saw the Musicians of Bremen bronze statue at the side, with tourists surrounding it and taking photos of it. Our host tells us that if we touch the donkeys' legs and make a wish, it shld come true or so it says. So of course the 2 front legs of the donkey is much shinier than the rest of the statue as it does w all other bronze statues. We
kind of have to get in line to touch the statue cos loads of people are trying to take w it. Finally after that we walked on around the market square and entered this narrow old street called Boucherstraat. It's filled w old buildings, souvenir shops and cafes so we walked quickly thru it and ended up at the River Weser riverbank called St Martin's harbour. Stayed there for a while to take some photos and walked back to the Boucherstraat and decided to have a rest by having a coffee and cake at the one of the cafes there. Sat outside the terrace to enjoy the nice weather and as I'm wondering what the other attraction called Glockenspiel that is mentioned in the travel book is about, the clock at 3pm started to ring and where we were sitting, we saw a part of the wall start to turn. Oh! so the Glockenspiel is a clock in the wall that will tell a story by turning the wall to reveal the beautiful carvings one by one. By then lots of tourists have gathered at the small street corner to enjoy the spectacle and we were lucky to have chosen
a nice seat to enjoy the attraction. After the nice coffee, we went on to find the mysterious animal sounds spot which our host told us to look for it. We asked 2 people where it is and both of them couldn't tell us exactly where and how it looks like. For our last resort, I went back into the St Petri Dom shop to ask the nice lady for directions and she finally gave me exact location and she says the money that goes into the brass cover is for the poor so she said we must try to find it and if we still can't find it, come back and tell her. I came out of the church and followed her instructions, and then WY found it on the floor near the market square! It's just like part of the drain system! No wonder we can't find it, so we slotted a coin in and the donkey sounds came out loud and clear! We feel so delighted we finally found the animal sounds so i kept slotting a few coins into it so we can hear the dog bark, the cat meowing, and the rooster crow too. After
entertaining ourselves, we walked on to find the post office and bought some stamps and then enter into the small world of Schnoor, a tiny house little area w lots of narrow streets and tiny souvenir shops. We walked around the streets and then went back to the market square to try their famous German sausages. The lady selling them can't speak English so we resort to pointing and charading w her and it was quite funny. The sausages were really nice and good and after that quick snack we started to head back cos meeting Afra, Simone's daughter for a night gathering w her friends.
Night: Reached back at the same time w Simone and by then she was dead tired from talking the whole day, so we left her to do her own stuffs and she then offered to cook dinner for us again. We felt embarrassed but her food was really delicious so we couldn't reject. This time she cooked sweet and sour prawns w a huge bowl of salad. Tasted simply marvellous! Have to learn from this home econs teacher how to whip up a nice healthy dish so fast. Afra came back shortly from
work and she was not feeling well at all so the gathering was cancelled and both of us decide to take a walk ourselves to the River Weser bank to soak in the night atmosphere. It was beautiful w the lights on the trees and we took a seat at one of the cafes. On our way back at abt 10pm, we visited a supermarket and went back to rest. A very fruitful day in Bremen and we covered most of the things within a few hours!
