How do sports play a role in the everyday life of people in Germany?

Germany is know to have a lot people who are physically fit. It's mostly because of their high rate of participation in sports. One of their most popular sport is soccer! Soccer started to get popular in Germany, surprisingly, in 2006 during the FIFA World Cup which took place in Germany itself. Another detail about sports in Germany is the time when they hosted the 1972 Olympics, there was a kidnapping of 11 israel athletes. The hostage ended up with all 11 of the athletes being murder.

The fact sports play an important role in Germany makes sense to me because every time I see a German team they always come at top. I can see why soccer the top sport in Germany! Soccer looks like it's very important to them because it's the only sport I see them dominate. There are many sports in which German people play; however, they don't compare to their amount of soccer fans. This is also probably why there's a lot of fit people in Germany.
