Former Iraqi Embassy of the GDR

The site of the building belongs to Germany, but the Republic of Iraq was granted "perpetual and exclusive rights", as is diplomatic standard for embassies

Only after a massive fire broke out in the building in June 2003 did the public start taking notice of the ruin; these days it's a less-than-well-concealed insider tip for adventurous visitors

It's strictly verboten to access the building, so care has to be taken when jumping the fence, as overzealous neighbours might call the Bullen (cops)

My Arabic is not up to scratch, so no idea what the headline of this newspaper is, or when it was published

I'd read a newspaper article about the abandoned embassy, who described is as some sort of party location or place to go for photograhers and artists; I expected hordes of people, but was surprised when I was the only one there, which added to the creepy feeling the place oozes

Obviously some street artists have left their mark

The embassy was abandoned shortly after the German reunification in October 1990; Iraq has shown little interest to clear up what's left, so souvenir hunters and Arabic-speakers might encounter something of interest

Precisely why the embassy has been abandoned in apparent panic, I have no idea; probably Iraq was more preoccupied at that time with the breakout of the Gulf War

Traces of party-people were to be found everywhere; broken bottles, cig butts, etc.

You did a nice job on the photos of the street art
They certainly have a lot of it. Sounds like Berlin keeps tugging you in that direction.
