If you look at the top of the church, you can see that it is in a ruined state. The chuch was bombed during the war and has never been repaired.

A Christmas Market

These markets were filled with wooden huts selling lots of food and other merchandise (clothing, jewelry, candles, etc.). We enjoyed some wonderful roasted chestnuts while walking through the market on a cold night with Christmas lights and music playing in the background. How romantic!

Jewish Memorial

This memorial consists of 2,700 concrete blocks. It represents all of the Jews who died during the war. Each block has its own unique height and tilt. Each block is coated with a protective spray to allow graffiti to be cleaned off easily. In a twist of irony, the company who makes the protective spray is the sister-company of the company who built the gas chambers for the concentration camps.

East Side Gallery

This is the longest stretch of the Berlin Wall that is still standing. The Berlin Wall was erected nearly overnight on August 13, 1961. It was built to separate West Berlin from East Berlin and the rest of East Germany. Many people died/were killed trying to cross the Wall. Paintings started on this part of the Wall in December 1989 immediately after the fall of the wall.
