coolest slide ever
So, on top of the museum there were tons of airplanes that you could walk around inside of. And one of them had a slide going out of it that connected to the building! You rode these little mats down, and the kids LOVED it! They spent the last half hour of their trip going down that slide! So I had to be a good teacher and go down with them! So, back again from H-berg. Just been chillin around town lately. Done a lot of schoolwork, since I finished my first grade placement last week. It was really hard to leave the kids. They sang some goodbye songs, and we had cupcakes and such. It was great, and I’ll miss them a lot! I’ve seen them in the halls, and they all get so excited to see Miss Walter again. I get a little excited to see them too! But yea, first-grade was wonderful, a lot of work but well worth it. I’ll miss Carol, she was such a great mentor and taught me a lot!
But, preschool is going swimmingly. I was so comfortable in the classroom right from the beginning. Preschool is kind of my thing and I know what to do. It’s a great program and I’m excited to learn more about it. It’s based on the Head Start program in the states, so there is a big parent component that is sorta hard to get used to. It was also hard for me to sit back and learn the routine again. I’m used to teaching, and doing things! But Next week I start taking over
things so that will be good. Clare is wonderful and has lots of knowledge! It’ll be hard for me to take over the class because she has all these great songs and management tools that I have to learn!! But it will be great, I’m very excited to be there.
Last weekend AO and I took a break from homework and went downtown to finally visit the castle. It was a gorgeous day outside abite a little foggy. We rode this cable car thing up the mountain and took a tour. It is so beautiful! There is a huge wine tun (barrel) in the castle. A little background- it holds ~ 60,000 gallons of wine, and was built in 1751. There is a dance floor on top of the barrel, it’s that big. The taxpayers used to pay in their trade right? So the wine growers and makers paid tariffs in wine. But they didn’t give their best wine, they gave the crappy stuff. So there was all these little barrels of wine in the castle, and someone got the great idea to throw it all in one huge barrel. White, red, dry, sweet, everything. And once air got
kids!
My first-graders in front of the Sinsheim museum. they are such hams! in some of it started to turn to vinegar, and the barrel warped and such. It just wasn’t a great idea. So the guests of the castle got wine from the Tun, and the royalty that lived here got good bottled wine!
Friday I got to go with the first grade on a field trip. We went to Sinsheim to a museum there. It was a transportation museum with an IMAX theater and lots of cool stuff. It was really interesting, but you can only see so much when you are chasing around a bunch of 6 year olds! Annette, Pierrot and Laurent came into town on Friday for 5 days during their holiday. I hooked up with them on Saturday morning and we went to the palace in Schwetzingen, and the biggest Roman church in the world, which is not too far in Speyer. I loved the palace gardens, it was huge and beautiful, even at the end of October! Then we picked up AO and went downtown for dinner. Went sightseeing the next day to lots of pretty little towns around here, back to Worms where they were having another fest, and overall had lots of good food,
Schwetzingen is fun to say
The palace gardens. So pretty!! Oh, and Pierrot, Laurent and I. great weather, beautiful views, and wonderful company!
So, another reason for updating this is to share exciting news. Some of you know that I had an opportunity to interview for an internship last week, and I just found out that I got accepted into the program. Some specifics- it is a PAID internship! Like PAID travel, PAID housing, and a PAID living stipend! That is the most exciting part. It is through UNI and the Camp Adventure program, and I’ll most likely be working with infants and toddlers at a CDC somewhere in DoDDS Germany. I say most likely because I won’t find out where I am placed for a while yet. Another great thing about it is that I get 12 graduate credits for a ridiculous price. For those of you not in the education world, 12 grad credits will move me up a pay scale when I start working! So getting paid to live in Germany, not have to find a real job right now, get 12 grad credits, and get a wonderful experience? I’ll take it! All I know right now is that I will be leaving sometime in January and be back sometime in May. It’s
on top of speyer
we went up a ton of stairs in a tower for a great view of Speyer. 17 weeks. (Katie, will this interfere with any wedding type things that I need to be around for?) I just wanted to share my exciting news with you all, and don’t worry I’ll keep you updated!
Well, that’s about it around here. Thanksgiving is coming up, and that means Scotland, so I’m getting excited! Everyone take care, and so long for now!

Solero
I'm so glad that you found Solero again. I think that it has been since we were in Germany in 2002 that you last had it. Thanks for the great family pic of Annette. It made me miss them even more. WE must go back soon to see them. Love ya.
