Girls on the Hill
L-R: Kaley, Laura, Kasia, and Me up on the hill Bonjour mes amis!
Alright..... so I just got back from my ski trip to Chamonix and my quick visit to Geneva, and all I can say is WOW!!! Skiing in the French Alps is definately an amazing experience, and Chamonix is a gorgeous little ski town!!! Skiing in the French Alps is very different from our ski hills back home in Canada- I must admit that although I was in thye French Alps the ski hills in Canada are in a league of their own. We have an extremely high quality runs are much more difficult back home. However, that being said- the French Alps are a sight to be seen. The mountains and the whole area is absolutley amazing. (As you can see by the pics I have posted). Furthermore, skiiing in just a fleece and windbreaker with no neckwarmer is definately a nice experience. It is the only time I have ever skiied and was complaining that I was too hot!!! A very nice change from the freezingness of skiiing back home.
Okay so to start from the beginning.... we first flew into Geneva from Paris and then crossed back over the border to Chamonix by shuttle.
Wine Tasting
Us and our wine tasting instructor at the cutest little wine shop called Cha Cha Cha Then we found outr cute little hotel, which was a steal of a deal at only 23 euros a night, and settled into bed so we could get up and hit the hills early. The next morning we got our rentals- (ummmm not so good, they were cheap but the quality was not so good- good thing I am no pro)! Okay so we hit the hills and the day was great- many many pictures were taken. After our day of skiiing we hit the snack shop up on the mountain and enjoyed a vin chaud- my new favourite drink!!!! It may sound weird but it is fabulous!!! It is hot wine, with some grand marnier, spices and lemon slices. I love it, and it sure hit the spot after a day of skiing!!! We then checked out the cute little town of Chamonix and enjoyed some excellent cheese fondue- a speciality in this area. We then did a fabulous wine tasting event at a cute little wine shop and tasted wines from the Burgundy and Bordeaux areas of France. Then it was off to a little pub close to our hotel which was an interesting experience as the guy
ME!!!
Me at the hill to girl ratio in this little town is 8:1! The next day we hot the hill again and again enjoyed a fabulous day of skiing. vin chaud and fondue!!!
Sunday morning we were off to cross the border again into Geneva where we spent the day touring around and fitting in as many sights as possinle. We saw the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, which I found very interesting. Here, we learned all about how the Red Cross Started and what it has accomplished over the years. Henry Dunant started the Red Cross and he was the first winner of the Nober Peace Prize- just some history for you. In Geneva we also saw the Jet d'Eau (see pic), Hotel DeVille, Cathedrale de St. -Pierrre, The Grand Rue- the street where Jean- Jacques Rousseau was born, and the floral clock (see pic). The Geneva waterfront is beautiful and we were there on a great sunny day so we had a fabulous time!
So now it was time to cross back over the border (back to France) where we would stay with family friends of my friend Laura. They were fanastic hosts and took in Laura and
Vin Chaud
Laura and Me drinking our favourite- vin chaud apres le ski (after skiing) her three completely unkown friends with open arms. They made as an amazing supper of yes you guessed it- FONDUE and we again loved it (you can never have to much fondue)! They live in a cute little town called Grilly and it as great to experience a very small French town and dine with the locals.
In the morning it was time to cross the border one last time (we ended up crossing the border 6 times over the course of our trip) as we headed for the airport and back to Rouen. We had a wonderful time but it is always nice to come back to Rouen.
Well that's it for now, but I will post again when I come back from my trip to Venice, Munich, Prague and Budapest. I leave on Feb. 15! I am so excited as I will be experiencing the Carnival in both Venice and Munich! I love the European life!
Having a blas here, but of course missing everyone at home, take care and keep in touch.

That was another nice read. It sounds like you had a great time skiing! I like that you've been seeing some smaller towns. They are often memorable most because you haven't seen millions of pictures of them before. It's also lucky that your friend's family was able to play host to everyone for a bit. That makes for a different experience. Rather than seeing things from the tourist perspective always. The food sounds delicious. I'm sure you have everyone back home drooling, myself included!
