This was a shot taken on Sunday morning outside our upstairs bedroom window - fantastic view of the garden and pool.We had a lot of sightseeing to do and Sunday we got started by going to L'Isle sur la Sorgue. The river Sorgue surrounds the city and it has several canals running through it's center. And check out the video of this cool water wheel we ran across by clicking the video link to the left. It was market day and we did our part - Zdena bought some sandals and cheese. We all met up about an hour later and headed to a great restaurant Terry had picked out and ate outside along one of the canals. Besides having a great meal, we had an experience I won't forget anytime soon. An "elderly" lady climbed out of her house and into the canal across from our restaurant and began scrubbing the side of the canal, which I guess was her house. Between her and the ducks, we had plenty of entertainment.

Next we headed to the Village of Bories. These were interesting huts made of stones without the use of

mortar. Please check out the link below for more photos and history of this unusual place.

The next stop was the Abbey de Senangue. The Monks grow incredible fields of Lavender on the grounds that were a week or so from being in full bloom. They had a lot of snails on them also, which I had never seen before. We got lucky and were able to see the Monks singing inside the chapel.

Then we headed to Gordes, a fantastic hillside town as you can see from one of the photos below. It was getting close to cocktail hour, so we just took a driving tour, but it was beautiful. More information on Gordes can be found at the following link:

Sunday night we just hung out at the house again and brought back out the tapas that had worked for us so well the night before. Most of us just relaxed, but West had maps all over the table pondering the next leg of the Tour de France he was hoping to ride the next morning.

Terry and I usually closed down the festivities for the day. Here is a shot where I think he was surprised to find a bottle with some wine left in it...

Paul and Zdena, this is just great to have these pictures and see what you were doing and the sites nearby, and especially to see the delux accommodations you had. What a trip!

This is great reading
I'm so jealous of you guys -- makes me want to hit the road again. I like all the food and wine detail.
5th October 2007

I'm also jealous because
you got to all the places I had planned to go and then didn't make it: Gordes, Senanques... and French cheese and wine too. Life's just not fair sometimes.
