Brugge

Thought we’d detour past the beaches of Dunkirk to pay respect to the many lives lost in the battles. What was here was obviously destroyed in the wars and quickly rebuilt in the fifties. Now days it’s a holiday town that’s stuck in a 50’s time warp (though it’s a dreary place for a holiday now). And the wind…trying to make lunch from the boot of the car in gale force wind is a mission, while the kids got sand burn on the wide sandy beaches we took refuge in the car and watched the wind blowing people and dogs off the promenade wall.
Now we’re off to Brugge (or Bruges it seems it can be spelt either way?).
It’s a pretty town with canals winding through and around the town, pretty shops and houses and a town square with an impressive church but the wind is just crazy. We struggle on for a while but decide to take refuge in the bar downstairs from the hostel where we met up with some uni students for a chat; finally some one we can converse with in English.
