Palais des Papes
Back to Avignon today to collect Geoff & Chery from the TGV station. We had stayed in the area for several nights at the beginning of our bike trip but hadn’t seen some of the major sights in the old town so we were keen to revisit it. The walled city of Avignon is quite magnificent. We had a delicious lunch there then a wander around, planning to return with our visitors after we collected them to view the Palais des Papes (Palace of the Popes) and the Pont d’Avignon. It was very tricky finding parking and by the time we arrived at the station, Geoff & Chery had exited via a different gate from the one at which we were waiting. Eventually we found each other and headed back to the old city for a drink.

Everyone was happy to visit the Palais des Papes, residence of nine successive popes in the 14th & 15th Centuries…wonderfully impressive rooms & interesting historical information about the era. We followed this up with a walk to the Pont d’Avignon which looked brilliant in the afternoon sun, even though it’s only half a bridge! We got back to Nyons in the dark, had
