Bikes on the deck of the Barge Soleo
The day dawned sunny & cool for our first day of riding. We headed off as a group with our lovely German guide Claudia towards Avignon, then the vineyards and cellars of Chateauneuf-des-Papes. The grapes are fat, juicy and ready for picking next week. A cave in this hillside town (home to several Popes in the 14th century), provided us with the opportunity to taste the local wines and purchase a couple of bottles of their excellent drop. Had lunch and made the climb (on foot) to a beautiful vista of the surrounding countryside. Visited a number of towns including Roquemaure and returned to the boat, still berthed in Villeneuve, to cool drinks, a relaxing time on deck & an excellent 3 course dinner. Turned in early…45km proved to be completely exhausting…how will we cope with 65km tomorrow??
