So here we are, living the highlife in the French Riviera!
Leah and I had our own tour guide, Brendan, to show us around his old stomping ground, the quaint town of Antibes and along the southern coastline of France.
The first stop on the itinerary, by no surprise, is Antibes’ marina for a guided tour and a detailed history of each of the boats there. How he knows, or remembers this stuff, neither of us knew!
We had a walk through the town centre, where Leah and I got straight to the important stuff and found a crepe shop. But of course discarded the shop assistant’s advice and both got a crepe with banana and chocolate ice-cream - no matter how messy it was going to be!
The next morning we walked further around to see the mega yachts, - note: not super yachts, bigger… - with their own swimming pools, ‘garages’ full of rich people’s toy and some even had helicopters! They were absolutely mind boggling!
We carried on to the lighthouse at the far end of the marina to get great views of the fort opposite and further along the coastline towards Nice.
We had a picnic lunch on the rocks then walked back into the centre of town to have a look through the market.
The market, under its quaint canopy and fairy lights, sells everything from meat to spices, flowers to various knick-knacks. We found a store that sold beach mats, so Leah and I got the last two and headed back to the small, but very pretty white sanded beach on the other side of the ancient stone wall and spent the afternoon snoozing on the sand. Leah got some sugar coated ‘pop pops’ (peanuts) from some guy roaming around the beach.
After soaking up the rays, it was time to get a drink. Leah and I couldn’t decide between a chocolate milkshake and a crepe, so we got both! However, our milkshakes were hot chocolates! - not at all like the picture - and didn’t taste very good nor did our crepes after a high standard from yesterday, so were quite disappointed!
We walked a few café’s down and got an ice-cream from yesterday’s nice shop and a bag of lollies from the lady selling all sorts of goodies under the archway of the stone wall.

along the old stone wall We went for a wander through the street of the old town, with narrow winding roads and walkways between old stones houses with flower boxes and shutters. It reminded me and Leah of Venice, not surprisingly since Italy once ruled over this part of France, so has a lot of style influence in this area.
We found our way to the coast at the far end of town, and walked along the promenade following the old fortified stone sea walls. We got good views of the neighbouring townships, the beach La Gravette and the marina, Port Vauban.
That night, Brendan took us to this cool pizza/pasta restaurant that was in a ‘cave’ underground! … can’t say I’ve eaten in many caves before!
