Hi all,
In todays fun packed adventures we visited the Louvre first thing to avoid the large crowds and manage to get in early for the main event, the Mona Lisa. After quickly photographing it for the sake of proving we had seen it we moved onto more exicting exhibits. This included interesting paintings, sculptures and other exhibits from Egypt, Ancient Greece, Persia, Mesopatamia and others. In particular the remains of old Paris on which the Louvre is built. The building itself is quite a sight and I think we probably covered a few kilometres just walking around the halls. We also got to spy a recreation of Napoleons rooms within the Louvre buildings. After a couple of hours walking around and not visiting Versaille we moved onto Notre Dame.
All and all the conclussion we came to is that the Louvre is one giant trophy room for Napoleons conquest of Egypt, the Middle East, Greece etc. Likened to sweeping treasure off a table and into a sack 😊
On our way to Notre Dame we meandered along the Seine once again and spent some time perusing the street vendors along the banks which offrered a range of
quite nice paintings and posters which were unfortunetly mostly to big to fit in our luggage, we may stop by them on our last day in Europe which will be spent back in Paris.
At Notre Dame we spent a while inside the church strictly obeying the no photographing rule which seems to have been ignored by the majority of people there and for that reason is obviously not policed. I mean its not like we took any pictures of the Rose Windows or anything :P After seeing the inside we went back out to join the queue for the Tower Tour. This entailed us getting in first, waiting 20 minutes in a gift shop before finally be let up to the tower which could have probabaly been done in the first place. We didn't buy any souvenirs anyway. The stairs upto the tower became progressivly tighter and steeper but we eventually came out on the top which offered panoranic views of most of Paris. The important parts at least. We got into the bell tower as well which saw Holly put on her best hunch. After descending the bell tower we visited the Crypt which is basically the
remains of the old roman city which modern day Paris is founded.
We also meet up with a friend of Chrissy's who is living in Paris at the moment. Coffee and Crepes were again enjoyed before heading back to our hostel. A short time resting and doing some hand washing in the bathroom sink we headed back out to celebrate Holly and Chrissy's early and last birthdays respectively. We had an amazing 3 course meal which including Creme Brule, Rabbit and a very rare 'Medium' steak, this could probably be attributed to our lack of french, and a bottle of Bourdeaux Sauvigon. We also had some amazing table services from 'Felipe' our 7-8 year old waiter.
Our planning is also done for most of our trains trips so we are heading to Brussels tomorrow to see a statue of a boy peeing and that about it apparently. The rest of the attractions will include chips, beer and chocolate in no particular order.
Until tomorrow,
Nick and Hollimodo
