So, once every month we have our two days off split up. BUT I did not spend them sitting at home! This past Tuesday I spent the day with Monsieur Sheitquatte (pronounced Shit cat). He is the Shepard for Beaumont Hamel and he invited me and whoever was off to come horseback riding at his place! So Maya, Chantal and I took him up on the offer. We went with the B-H guides to work and he picked us up there. Then we saddled up Princesse and Rayon to go riding. I rode Rayon, he was just a pony but we became best friends very quickly. We rode around in the corral for a little bit so M. Sheitquatte could get a feel for our level and then we got to go out in the fields for a bit. At that time Rayon was getting grumpy though because he was tired so we decided to go in for lunch. We met Madame Sheitquatte, she has Alzheimers unfortunately, but we all had a nice meal of noodles, chicken, lamb, yogurt and poached pears. Next we went out into the fields and picked apples, pears and plums from the trees in M. Sheitquatte's
farm. We brought back a whole box full! Cresence has made apple butter for our toast and I'm planning on making an apple crisp once I find some oats! Next M. Sheitquatte took us around the area, seeing some churches that are being refurbished, and a WWI collection/museum. Then we were back in time to catch a ride home with the B-H guides and do some groceries.
When we got back, Kaitlyn and I made homemade pizza for everyone! It was super fun! We made the Crescence special (with potatoes) and Kaitlyn and Maya made a fancy Margarita pizza with real fancy mozzarella and tomatoes and stuff. Super yummy and so much fun for everyone!
Work is going well, every day is so great. The other day I gave a tour for Kelee Leitch, she's the MP for Simcoe Grey. She also happens to be a pediatric orthapedic surgeon. I asked her if she knew any of the Mahoneys (she trained and worked in Toronto) and she said that Uncle Jim taught her, and that she knew my dad, so that was a cool connection 😊
This week at work we're starting to get school groups, all
English right now, but the French groups will be coming soon... Speaking of which... I GAVE MY FIRST FRENCH TOUR!
Not as horrible as I thought it was going to be, but once I gave it I was really able to see which parts I need to work on and what is sounding good. I've been speaking lots of French lately with my coworkers, and often on trips I'll speak French all day with Crescence (she's Quebecois) like I did this Sunday in Paris!
So Chantal, Karine, Cres and I all went to Paris to see a contemporary dance piece called "In Paris" and it starred the guy who played Carrie's Russian lover in the last season of Sex and the City. It was.... pretty experimental? Interesting to say the least. The only part of it that was actually dancing was the last 10 minutes where the Russian does an awkward Pasa Doble with his coat.... I'll start from the beginning:
The show begins with a woman hitting the people in the front rows as she makes her way onstage with a giant flat around her neck (It looked like those pictures that you stick your head
in). She then danced and sang opera and jumped around with the house/flat around her neck. Then the man onstage starts speaking in French about how his wife left him, while the English translation was behind him on the screen. Then next he starts talking Russian to the waitress at the bar he is at with a flimsy table he is holding, while the French translation flashed on the screen.
Then three days pass. To show this the stage moves around in a circle. While they are frozen on stage. For five minutes.
Then the same sort of scene goes on again but you can tell they like each other. At least I think they did because I started to fall asleep.
Then the old Russian guy takes a long time getting undressed while a woman sings opera in the background. Then the girl does the same, and throws her clothes at the lady singing who is playing with her hair.
Then the old guy and the girl go on a date. They get into a cardboard cut out car. Then the car goes around in a circle while they sit frozen. Then the car stops because a dog
starts peeing. They even had water that ran all over the stage. Then they get out of the car and go see a movie. At first it's charlie chaplain on the screen. Then it switches to pictures of people who looked like they were put through photobooth on macs because their mouths started taking over their face. Then the old russian guy jumps through the screen and slashes it apart with a sword. Then the couple agree to go home together. Again in the cardboard car.
Then they get back to his place and he charges at her arms wide open and she goes flying into the air on a pulley system. Then he runs at her again and she goes flying again. Then she becomes upside down in the air and they hold hands. Then it says on the screen that he dies three days later in a subway. Then he does a Pasa Doble with his coat, and then the show is over.
It was very different, but not really what I was expecting at all since it's marketed as a dance show, and not really what I was in the mood for, but still cool.
Also while in Paris we explored the Latin Quarter before the show. It was really neat. We got a three course meal (onion soup au Gratin, Boef Bourginon, Chocolate lava cake) for 10.90! 😊 Then after the show we walked around near the Eiffel Tower, and then we went to Montmatre. That was really cool because I saw the Moulin Rouge! We also got to see Sacre Coeur Basilica which was neat too.
We came home to MEXICAN FIESTA NIGHT at St. Aubs. We had tacos and chilli/nacho dip with tons of sangria and it was super fun 😊
Working all this week then I'm off to Reims with Crescence this weekend, can't wait! Just got the new schedule and I think I might be making a trip to London and Dublin!
