Paris

so of course we had to start off this trip with a story. there were about 10 of us that had to catch the same train, so we all got to the train station and matt realized he didn't have Eurail pass, so he went back to get it & catch the next train, but it was late so he missed the flight.
we (joan, kelly, sarah, schaefer, & i) flew into tours and took the train to paris. Dropped off stuff at the hostel, and headed towards the eiffel tower for dinner. After dark the eiffel tower lights up like a christmas tree on the hour, so we watched that and then went up the eiffel tower which had some amazing views of the city (it took come coaxing to get joan up there though).
Friday we went to Notre Dame, and couldn't get in because of the pope's funeral -- they even sat up a big screen inside & in the garden of the church so that every one could watch it. Then we went to the catacombs and tey were "seasonally closed" but the dates listed on the sign were "early 2004 - may 2005." right. then it started to downpour, but we ran across the Jardin du Luxembourg & had fun playing around the fountain since we were already drenched. We dried off while walking around the Louvre, and then headed to the Arc de Triomphe to meet up with Lorna & Matt; Lorna had traveling issues so she wasn't there, but Matt finally made it to France. We wandered around the Champs Elysees until we headed back to the hostel, where Lorna was waiting for us.
