Versailles June 17, 2012
The whole group at the end of our day at Versailles. Great weather, and BEAUCOUP de tourists! Made it to Paris. Great weather today. Settled into the hotel at 4:30 pm local time. Ate at a café here in the Latin Quarter, then did a lot of walking, exploring the area close to the hotel. Unfortunately the wifi and the phone have been unreliable and/or very slow, giving me fits all day. I realized I have the wrong connector from my camera to my iPad so I won't be able to upload pictures yet. With or without pictures, I will do my best to update you. The kids are having fun, but we're beat having travelled through the night and staying up all day. Tomorrow it's Notre Dame and the Louvre!
Friday June 15: ate a typical French breakfast of croissants and coffee/juice. Walked to Notre Dame, climbed to the top. Some great pics were taken of the kids in front of the gargoyles and the Paris skyline. Had some of the best ice cream and sorbet at the Isle St. Louis (Berthillon). Then took the metro to Place de la Concorde and walked through Jardin des Toulieries, then to the Louvre. Ate dinner at a crêperie near the hotel. A visit to the Monoprix and then
La Tour Eiffel
Monday June 18, 2012 by 10:30pm everyone was ready for bed! Bonne nuit!
Saturday June 16: Sorry that I have no photos to post. Haven't had a chance to go to the Apple store to get the correct device. Lots of fun photos have been taken by me and the kids, so don't worry, you'll see them sooner or later; hopefully sooner! Today was another jam-packed day. We toured the gorgeous Luxembourg Garden, Sainte Chappelle, La Conciergerie, ate lunch in the area surrounding Centre Georges Pompidou, walked around Place Vendôme, took a break, then ate dinner at an Italian restaurant near La Sorbonne. We then took the metro to Pont Neuf and toured the Seine on one of "Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf" boats. We got to see the Eiffel Tower all lit up : ) tomorrow - Versailles! Bonne nuit!
Sunday June 17: Happy Fathers Day! Today was LONG! Left the hotel at 11 for the Marché aux Oiseaux, then took the train to Versailles, where we stayed until 6 pm. Came back by train, had a short break, then went to dinner at Le Volcan. It was an amazingly delicious three course meal. Great weather, great day. Bonne nuit!
Well, I was so excited because I finally was able to get the device from the apple store to transfer photos from my camera. It works great;however, I can only upload one picture at a time, thanks to the SLOW wifi connection here at the hotel! One photo takes about 3 min. To upload, so for now, I'll post our group shot from yesterday at Versailles. Earlier today we visited the Opéra Garnier and Galleries Lafayette. Tonight it's La Tour Eiffel!
Monday June 18: Another wonderful day in Paris.... After the Opera house and the chic world of Galleries Lafayette, we took a break for a couple hours. Most of the kids took naps : ) We had Chinese for dinner (there's a nice little Chinese place right next to the hotel, so we took advantage of that). Then it was on to the Eiffel Tower. We all had a great time either walking up to the second floor or taking the elevator all the way to the top! I tried to upload a great group pic in front of the Eiffel Tower but the wifi timed out on me! I wish I was able to get more pictures up!!! At the mercy of the wifi....oh well...
Tuesday June 19: Today was our "journée libre." Some of the students chose to go to Musée d'Orsay, some chose to go shopping, and I and another student chose to go to Cimitière Pere Lachaise (where lots of famous people are buried, including Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and Edith Piaf) and Deyrolle (a very cool taxidermy shop). Extraordinaire! Tonight we all visited the Arc de Triomphe. It was a little rainy this evening, not too bad. After a couple of tries, I was able to load an Eiffel Tower picture that didn't "time out"! Hard to believe that tomorrow is our last full day in Paris. We'll be visiting Montmartre and the Marais districts.
Wednesday June 20: Today we visited Montmartre, which means we saw Sacré Coeur, artists, the Moulin Rouge, among other things. Then we visited Paris's museum and memorial to the Holocaust. Very moving - wish we had more time there. We took a break, then went out for our last three course meal in the Latin Quarter, just two buildings over from where Ernest Hemingway lived in the twenties. Au Revoir Paris !
