While the Lourve has some very famous paintings, sculptures and other art it also has a TON of other, less well known artwork. It is a huge building, over 652000 square feet (about 11 football fields). It is spread over 4 floors with three wings on each floor. Even though we spent the whole day in the Lourve we saw less than a quarter of the museum. Some of the more famous works we saw included Winged Victory of Samothrace, Michaelangelo’s Dying Slave, Venus de Milo and of course the famous Mona Lisa. We had a lovely chicken dinner back at our apartment with a bottle of one of the most excellent bottles of champagne that I have ever had.

It was discovered in Turkey years after the statue. The French wanted the hand in Paris so they negotiated for it. After all of the treasures France had looted from Turkey in the past, they felt it only right to give Paris the finger.

This was the really good champagne that Harve (the man we rented the apartment from) left for us to drink. We never found another bottle of it.
