The Eiffel tower
Tho i'm looking goofy- I'm right in front of it! I get up pretty early and am happy to see Paula up so I give her a hug and wish her well, Hyo-Jin was sweet and sent me and Susan off this morning. I took the same train with Susan and was super grateful, on many levels for that. Not only is Susan an great person to be around, but she also knows more French then me, so when it was time to buy the train the ticket, she handled mine 100% ,Merci! She got me on a train to Paris that was leaving Bordeaux around 10:30am, while her’s left an hour later. We do have assigned cabins and seats on that train so I think regardless it was alright cause we wouldn’t have been able to sit with each other.
After we got off our first train we sit and have some bread and juice in the café and really get to know each other better. I realized that I was sad to say goodbye last night and this morning, and it was going to be a little hard to say goodbye to her as well. She was sweet, and followed Hyo-Jin’s example, and took me to my cabin and
Go Joe!
Army guys with guns walk around to make sure everything is cool! saw me off on the train.
Three hours later I arrive in Paris. I have directions on how to walk to my hostel, but instead I take the taxi. The roads are not clearly marked (seeing as how they are displayed, poorly, on the sides of buildings) and I didn’t want to tote my large luggage, that is now missing one of the wheels, around God-knows-where in Paris.
A good while later I make it to my hostel, the lady at the front is very friendly and I am giving my key. The only bad part is that the shower is shared and so is the toilette (well I guess if I lived with it for two weeks, I guess I can do it for another few days), the room is also kind of crummy, but it might be nice to have my own room for the next few nights.
After getting settled, and tearing into what was left of my Cheez-its (it was now 2pm and I’ve been up since 6am and else then a little bit of bread and juice at breakfast I hadn’t eaten a thing, I was used to big breakfasts at Plum Village!), I get
I see London, I see France
I see up the Eiffel tower's under pants! a map and figure out the metro station and head towards the Eiffel Tower. It was beautiful, I had such great timing. As I was making my way, the sun of setting on Paris and I got to see all the bright city lights come to life. As I was coming down (and I made sure to buy the ticket that allowed me to go all the way up to the top) lights started sparkling on the tower as if it was twinkling in the night! Very beautiful!
I realized I hadn’t really eaten a meal, nor have I had a glass of wine in France yet, so I head over to a Café and order a some chicken dish. The chicken was a bit dry, and they gave me French (Freedom) fries as a side, but no ketchup. I ordered a random glass of red (eh, I know nothing about wine, so I thought it was alright) and enjoy my meal in silence. My meal came with a dessert, but I almost wish it hadn’t. The waitor brought me out a bowl of fruit. I guess I have been spoiled by fresh fruit everyday cause when I realized this
is nothing more then the canned fruit cocktail we buy at home, I wished I just had an apple or mango or something else.
Afterwards I made it back to my room, where I am now, almost ready to go to sleep! Tomorrow I have a fun day planned, and as for Sunday, will have NO idea what I want to do! There were only three things I cared to do in Paris, one was marked off today, and tomorrow I have time for the others two, so we’ll see how it goes. I think I also need to eat a bit more frugal. My meal was alright tonight, but cost a bit much (well in my opinion) at least Breakfast is free at my place I’m staying at, and sometimes I really just like trying food at the local and nearby stands! See how it goes tomorrow! Can’t believe I’m in Paris!
