The kids have been such troopers throughout the trip, it’s been a really busy day today, finishing after midnight, they’ve been doing anything we suggest and keep going all day and night without a grizzle. All it takes is an ice cream somewhere along the way and they’re happy.
After treating the kids to some time at Jardin de Tuilluries and walking back along the river Seine we took the metro to Montmartre after lunch. Our aim is to take some night photos of Paris and the Moulin Rouge.
Lots of walking today (as with every other day) but Montmartre is really hilly with steep streets or banks of steep steps. A fantastic swing jazz band was playing on the stairs of the Sacre Cour Cathedral so we sit with the crowd and soak up the ambience, but this also requires alcohol to make a great afternoon session better. Trouble is the only choice is either beer or a bottle of wine. I draw the line at swilling wine from a bottle on the steps of a church, so after walking up and down and round and round to find some cups (not as easy as I first thought) I really
deserved a good drink. Thankfully they were still playing by the time I got back and there ended up being a succession of musicians after that. So we grabbed a pizza and more wine for dinner in the park and finished of the evening being entertained on a balmy Parisian night.
By the way I think Turkey has won a soccer game; cars are honking in the streets with flags waving and Turks cheering and shouting. It’s scary to think how many of them there are, France better not upset Turkey.
