Yes I went to see some Dali today, Melty clock sculptures and everything. Even bought a dali finger puppet to harass april with when she isn't participating in surreality.
So it's been a while since I last blogged. A cliched phrase for me now and will probably appear in every blog from hence forth. Last I left you I had finished canoeing, since then spent some time in London stuffing myself at indian veg, a cheap indian buffet filled with great information on why it is great to be a vegetarian. For instance, did you know that Miss Phillipinnes 1994 was a vegetarian? Thought not, but so are many other great people too along with pictures. Much fatness and bloating ensued, so April and I went to Glasgow at the beckoning of one Miss Vicki Sherratt.
In Glasgow we performed some classic Canadian activities such as making pancakes for 7 of the oppressors(canadian slang for english people). Furthermore hiked up a big scottish mountain where the largest of the oppressors, and our gracious host, Tom Sparks taught me some free climbing tricks. Very exhilirating the thought of your death a mere slip away. I won't even talk about the
megabus that we rode through the night to get to Glasgow from London other than to say that packing a double decker bus full with sweaty non-showered people in the space of what should be a normal bus becomes unpleasant and much sleep deprivation ensued, which was not helped by the fatness and bloating that you will remember ensued from earlier buffets. We survived.
I also managed to spend a weekend visiting Birstall the village of John Burger and Vicki Sherratt which has some wonderful sights and sounds. Met April the next day in Oxford thanks to some improvised trip planning with Robert Swerdlow. These visits transpired before Glasgow btw😞, i thought of copying pasting and moving above glasgow section i got as far as ctrl + x and stopped to honour the title of this entry.
Met for Norfolk Terrace reunion avec crepes a plenty May 26, members present: jen, elena, john, laura, april and myself. A fine reunion in most respects and thanks to elena for hosting in her kitchen. A notable personal moment = scarring my face with melted butter when flipping crepe with too much butter in pan. Narcissism faded quickly from that day
forth. Scab and scar helps to complete my revolutionary look (as in military revolutionary, not to be confused with nouveau couture) as my electric hair trimmer died on plane to Paris before i had a chance to trim hair or beard!! Look is accentuated by black long sleeve shirt and green military pants.
Now in Paris. Using very bad french at every opportunity. Funnily as April has pointed out, it is very instinctual to carry out our half of conversations in bad french despite the fact that most french people converse with us fluently in english. Comment est-ce que vous direz "frustrated french people?" Been to many museums including Louvre which April and I both agreed that seeing one third of the museum was quite sufficient before moving on to the musee d'orsay. April looked at the Mona Lisa as if to say, "Really?" Instead I chose to picture Tom Hanks smiling next to it despite never having seen or read the Davinci Code.
Person of note: Brock - our free walking tour guide through the city of Paris. An intoxicating melange of stories and humour served with ample discussion of sexually transmitted disease, an interesting alternative to
the usual double decker sight seeing etc. Check out NewEurope on Google, they do tours in big cities all over Europe. Yes I also advertise now.
Also got to see some cheap French Open live at Roland Garros. Saw Andy Murray destroy someone, saw the finish to a 5 set match with a frenchman michel Llodra, the crowd went nuts for this guy and he was quite a spectacle to watch tossing his racket into the crowd with almost french mime-ish perfection. Next day saw Santoro lose in doubles.
Tomorrow we pick up our little Renault car and then off to Monet's garden and Chartres. Camping, while cheap is resulting in great humidity, and in turn, humility.
Thank you for your patience and in participating in my homage to Dali as I tried my memory to conjure the past two weeks onto this canvas. I have to go now, my addiction to Orangina is beginning to rival April's addiction to caffeine.
