This morning, Theresa and I planned on waking up and going to climb the stairs of the Eiffel Tower, so we got ready and headed out on our walk. It ended up taking longer than we expected, and we were supposed to meet Katie and Bri at 12:30 to ride a hot air balloon. We walked towards Parc André Citroën, and along the way we passed the Statue of Liberty that the US gave France. I think it is kinda funny that I had to see the Statue of Liberty in France before I made my way to New York to see the original!
We stopped before we got to the park to have a snack. We found the park, and saw the hot air balloon. Unfortunately it wasn’t what we had thought; it only went straight up for a few minutes, and we didn’t think 12€ was worth it. Instead we hung out at the fountains in the park to cool down a little before going to the Eiffel Tower.
Theresa, Katie, and I started climbing, and 688 steps later we made it to the second floor. It was a really pretty view of
Paris. We went back down and met back up with Bri. She was going to give us a tour of the sights, but since Theresa and I had done that yesterday, we went off on our own. We were headed to the Arc de Triomphe, but got distracted by the skateboarders that were racing around cones, like the rollerbladers yesterday. It was insane how fast they could go without knocking many cones down.
After watching the end of the quarterfinals, we left to find the Arc. We found it, but unfortunately, couldn’t figure out how to get to it, seeing as it is in the middle of a major circle road. We were getting annoyed, and finally decided to make a run for it when the traffic lightened up. That was definitely very interesting, but we finally got to see the Arc de Triomphe. It was huge and very cool. In the middle, is the tomb of an Unknown French soldier from WWI. We figured out how the people got to the Arc when we were leaving-an underground tunnel, so needless to say our walk to the other side was a lot easier!
We walked a little bit
down the Champs-Elysees, which is where the end of the Tour de France is. This summer when I watch it, I will be able to say I’ve been there! Theresa started to get really thirsty so we were on the search for something to drink, which was nearly impossible! We were going to stop for a break when we finally found something to drink, but that didn’t happen for awhile, so we decided to go towards Moulin Rouge. Finally, we found a KFC and had something to drink. We had passed a crepes place, which I really wanted to try, so we went back after our break. I had a crepe with Nutella (a spread of chocolate and peanut butter), bananas, and coconut, and Theresa had the same, minus coconut and with almonds. They were so good!
After we were done eating, we went on a search for Moulin Rouge. It is a cabaret that has shows that are insanely expensive, but look really fun. Sadly, we just saw the outside. We walked around the area for a little bit, and I bought band-aids for my 4 blisters that had started to form from all the walking. (I tried
to figure out the total distance of walking on Saturday, and it looked to be about 12 miles! No wonder I had blisters, especially after the 6 miles on Friday!)
We took the Metro back to the Eiffel Tower to meet Katie and Bri to watch it being lit up and sparkle. Theresa and I got there early and watched the boys dance again. We went to talk to them for a little bit afterwards too, but that was a little hard because none of them spoke a lot of English. Then we sat on the steps to watch the Eiffel Tower. It was soo pretty, especially when it started to sparkle. At 10, for ten minutes, the lights on the Eiffel Tower “sparkle”- so fun!
We met up with Katie and Bri, and we were going to meet Bri’s friends by the river so we took the Metro there. Her friends wanted to get ice cream, so the four of us went down by the river and had a couple drinks. It was getting pretty late, and Theresa and I needed to get a little sleep before our early morning, so we took the Metro home. We
went to bed around 1:15 for a brief nap!
