sleep at gatwicksleep at gatwicksleep at gatwick

this is ian getting his 15 minutes of sleep at the gatwick airport waiting for our plane to bordeaux
WELCOME TO BORDEAUX! well after a flight over to Halifax and a 5 hr lay over then a stop in Newfoundland then a 7 hr flight to London. it was amazing to see Ian waiting for me at the Heathrow Airport. You all would love to see us walking around with our backpacks full of all our belongings for 2 mounths. So we spent the day in London. The train station had a place where we stored our backpacks and we were off to explore. London is so nice and busy! We ended up at a bar called the "Maple Leaf" its a canadian bar ... it was pretty fun; caught up and watched a CFL game followed by some world cup action. Then we went out for some drinks with NIck, one of Ians fraternity brothers thats in london, then to Gatwick Airport where we planned on sleeping until our 6AM flight. WELL.... let me tell you! "sleeping at a crowed airport is not a fun experience! i didnt sleep at all and ian got in a whole 15 minutes, needless to say we were a bit tired/grumpy when we got into Bordeaux at 7hr45 on the morning of the

walking around trying to find the tourist office but found a little bar instead
20th..... and things only got better from there! lol
after gettting into Bordeaux K and I decided to book our train tickets and get all together to leave for Madrid in two days time...HAHAHA that did not happen between actual BOMB THREAT in the train station we had to be evacuated for a while, and every person of staff at the station giving us different information on train times and avalibility we did NOT get a ticket to Madrid and have to go to a place in northern Spain called Irun and see what happens.
After that first bit of excitment for 2 people with combined sleep of 4 hourse in the last 48 we were not happy. however after that it got really nice, we were able to get tickets to vinyard tours and wine tastings at three different chateaus today in the Médoc region of Bordeaux; Chateau Cantemerle, Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Chateau Kirwan. It was tones of fun walking around the vinyards and estates getting to see one of the most talked about places in the world. We got to do wine tastings, and eat lunch in a wine cellar overlooking the grape vines it was unreal.

has honestly been amazing... walking around downtown Bordeaux and stopping at random cafes that have the most wonderful food and drinks that some 5 star hotels probably cant compete with. Our hotel is RIGHT infront of the train station which is ideal and the weather has been great! we're both doing great ... NEXT STOP ... SOMEWHERE IN SPAIN ... talk to you later!!!! xoxox Karla and Ian
(by the way i would like to point out to anyone who does not know .... typing on a french keyboard is one of the most FRUSTURATING things ive ever! hahaha)

this is so awswome!!
wow - this site is amazing!!! Forget the sleep - Sleep when you get home! From an Aunt who has done the back pack thing - just keep all of your belongings literally tied to your body so nothing goes missing like uncle Colin's expereince with his bags getting stolen - do you know that story? I use to literally tie my back pack to the storage area in the trains and always had my foot through at least one strap whever I sat down anywhare or stopped and stood anywhere. The pictures are great!!! You two look wonderful! Keep us posted on your adventures - I will keep the kids updated! Happy hiking! Love you xoxoxo
