I stayed in Bulgaria in September 2008.
I went to Albena.
It is a resort on the Black Sea at 40 km from Varna.
The first day it was sunny.
I went along the beach.
I walked in the sea.
The water's temperature was pleasant.
There was little stream.
The second day the weather was beautiful.
I walked in the sea.
The water was a little colder than the day before.
There was more stream.
The third day it rained.
It rained in the morning.
The rain stopped in the afternoon.
I went to the coach station of Albena.
I took a minibus to Baltchik.
I went off in the city center of Baltchik.
I took photos.
I walked on a way along the Black Sea.
I went to the palace of the queen Mary from Romania.
I visited the botanic garden.
It is built on several floors.
The walls are made of stone.
The floors communicate through a network of steps made of stone.
I climbed to the top of the botanic garden from where the sight on the Black Sea is wonderful.
The botanic garden contains more than six hundred species of plants that
are set with care.
I visited the palace of the queen Mary from Romania.
The indoors are an original blending with a turkish ceiling and icons for the orthodox cult.
An original collection of various objects is exhibited.
I saw orthodox paintings, remains of roman amphorae, bones of a backbone of a mammoth.
I went out from the palace.
It was night.
I went on foot for ten kilometers to go back to Albena.
The next day I went on an outing in a bulgarian village.
The guide who was a woman gave us explanations on Bulgaria in the coach.
The climate of Bulgaria is continental.
The spring is very short.
The autumn is very short.
We visited the garden of the Planted Stones.
The place is made with different boulders.
The origin of these boulders remains unexplained.
The are three versions.
The first version says there was a volcanic activity three million years ago.
There was a liberation of methane.
Stone formations would have been formed.
The second version says sand would have been agglomerated in the form of stone formations.
The third version says it would be the result of
a process like the formation of stalactites.
There is a legend.
A young man wanted to wed a young woman. He went to the Titans to ask them for their allowance.
The Titans answered him he could wed the young woman but he would lose his immortality.
He told he would think during a day.
He had to write the name of the god he needed for his case.
He punished the Titans by changing them in stones.
He wrote the name of the god with the petrified bodies of the Titans.
A healing source appeared next on this place.
The scientists gave names to the stones.
We went to the village of Garbonitsa where an old woman has hundred beehives.
We had a honey tasting.
We ate pollen.
I breathed the healthy air outside the farm.
We went to a village to see workshops of traditional bulgarian pottery.
We went in a cart.
At the entrance of a house the hosts gave a piece of brioche
that we put in spices to accept the welcome.
We ate yoghurt in a pot decorated in an artistic way.
Women dancers did traditional bulgarian dances.
A
potter made potteries.
We visited a traditional bulgarian house.
We had a wine-tasting in another house.
We went to a bulgarian house to eat.
We went by coach back to Albena.
The next day in the afternoon I went to the beach of Albena.
It was sunny.
I bathed in the sea.
In the evening I went on an outing.
We went during five minutes by coach.
We went to a very pleasant cabaret show.
The last show was with dancers who danced on live coals.
At the beginning they made a cross sign before an orthodox bible.
They invoked the spirits.
They were then in a state of trance where they couldn't feel the pain of their feet on the live coals any more.
I was impressed by these dancers on live coals.
The next day I went to Varna.
I visited the Primorski park along the Black Sea.
It is a beautiful park.
It is said this park is the longest marine park in Europe.
I went to the delphinarium.
I saw delphins who did acrobatics.
I liked this show with delphins.
Then I went on walking
in the park.
I saw at the other end of the park a soviet helicopter, a soviet char, a soviet ship at a reduced scale and a lighthouse.
I went on walking in the park.
I saw old women who were knitting.
I went next out of the Primorski park.
I went to change money at a rate that was more interesting than in Albena that was in fact the official change rate from Euros to the bulgarian currency that are the Leva.
I went to eat at the Mac Donald's.
I went next walking in Varna.
I went near the archeological museum of Varna.
I saw the Nezavisimost place.
I saw the theater of Varna.
I saw then the cathedral Our Lady of the Assumption of Varna.
I went back to the city center.
I went along the railway station.
I went back to the city center.
I saw the Saint Athanase church.
I went on walking.
I went to the coach station.
I took a coach to Albena.
The next day we went to an outing on the countryside.
We visited
the monastery of Aladja.
It is a rupestral monastery.
We visited the museum of the monastery of Aladja.
The first floor explains the history of the monastery.
The monastery was built in the XIth century.
The monks who lived there threatened the fundings of the bulgarian state because they criticized the lords.
They were expelled.
They lived hidden in rupestral monasteries.
Archeological rumblings were made in the XIXth century.
The museum exhibits paintings that were discovered representing the Christian art of the XVIth-XVIIIth century.
The second floor of the museum of the monastery of Aladja shows mosaics.
We visited the rupestral monastery of Aladja.
It consists of three floors.
The rooms were separated by walls of bricks made with clay blocks.
The outer overtures were closed with curtains of skins of beats.
The monks spent all their life in the rupestral monastery.
We went back to the coach.
We went in a small bulgarian church on the countryside.
We went in a small bulgarian village to have a lunch.
A musician was playing bagpipe that was characteristic of the mountains and accordion that was characteristic of the region.
We went
back to Albena.
There was Sun in the afternoon.
I walked along the sea in Albena.
I went out of Albena.
I walked for a while.
I went back to Albena.
I went back to my hotel.
