Ok...this is blog #3. This blog will include our pics from our ferry rides from the island of Korcula and then the nights in Mostar and the day trip to Sarajevo. Our trip to Sarajevo was great. It was long...and somewhat of a hassle do to road construction. I am in desparate need of a co pilot since my dad's sense of direction is...let's say...a bit OFF. Our day started with getting pulled over by the Mostar police and getting ticketed for not having our lights on at 10 am. Then when we got to Sarajevo...which was really worth it, but a LONG day...having to change a flat as dad and I with the kids...were looking for Lions field (the cemetery built during the war for those killed who could not be buried anywhere else) and ... read more

A few days ago I embarked on another traın rıde, and the destınatıon was the capıtal cıty of Bosnıa ın Sarajevo, a cıty that was under sıege for 4 years a lıttle over 10 years ago. The traın rıde took only 2.5 hours, whıch was such a shame because you could never get tıred of the scenery we encountered. The traın meandered through large mountaıns followıng a gorge wıth a fast flowıng rıver ın the centre. Unfortunately we were too busy talkıng for most of the trıp to really take ın the scenery, but of the glımpses we dıd get, ıt was amazıng. Upon arrıvıng ın Sarajevo, I was followıng some frıends I had made back ın Mostar to theır accomodatıon hopıng that there would be a free bed for me (I have not booked ahead ... read more

Sarajevo and Mostar day 6-8 (July 3 - July 5) An amazing bus journey from Belgrade to Sarajevo through the ? Mountain range. Granite outcrops on top of high mountains, and gorgeous valleys. We took a local trolley bus upon arrival, once the electrics had been restored as there had been a problem down the line. As we drove through you could still see the scars of the recent war marking the building with bullet and mortar holes visible in many buildings, with others you can see the patches but the painting was yet to be completed. We were staying in a lovely Pension and we even had a lounge suite. Our room had ensuite while the others had to share. Our orientation tour took us through the modern area of Sarajevo, with Austrian architecture and ... read more

Friday July 3rd- We took an 8 hour (airconditioned...yes!) bus to Sarajevo, Bosnia from Beograd, Serbia. Tages and I were overwhelmed at how beautiful Bosnia was. We didnt know much about Bosnia and didn't know what to expect because it is not in the one large guide book we decided to bring. I felt like my breath was taken away when seeing Bosnia out of the bus window. The landscape slowly started to change from flat fields to green forests, valleys and cliffs. The sights were incredible. The mountains, winding rivers, and small mountain roads were gorgeous. We arrived at a bus station mid-afternoon that was far outside of the city so we broke down and paid for a taxi. This is only the second taxi we have had to take on the trip, not too ... read more

For a change we took the day train out of Serbia....mainly because it was the only train available to get out of Belgrade to Sarajevo. We had to detour though Croatia for a few hours, so we were expecting plenty of entertainment with our friends in passport control. While waiting for our connecting train in Croatia we bumped into a fellow InterRailer and world traveller extraordinaire!! He was 62! ...and travelling Eastern Europe for a few weeks. He had travelled all over the world and had many entertaining stories and words of wisdom to pass on to us... On the train down to Sarajevo we got taking to a local business man who was working with the Bosnian government and international organisations, to put Bosnia on possible progression towards EU membership in the years ahead. You ... read more

Yesterday we had to get up nice and early (again!) to catch a 6 hour bus to Sarajevo. I have to say that the journey on the bus was far more lovely than the train ride into Serbia. The scenery on the way into Bosnia was just beautiful. There were beautiful hills and lakes and forests. I can see why the Serbs would have wanted this countryside. When we got to Sarajevo we checked into a delightful little pension which is run by a family and then headed straight out again to get some lunch as it was rather late in the afternoon by this point. Chris took us to a wonderful little restaurant in the older district of Sarajevo where we had a dish called Lapinja with Cevapi. This is basically grilled pork in a ... read more

Scott’s parents were over in Europe for a few weeks and we all went to Zagreb and Sarajevo for the long Bank holiday weekend. Setting out late Friday evening, we arrived in to Zagreb just before 11 and then managed to get a bus into the city and then a taxi to our pokey little hotel. It was central so we forgave it for being tiny. The following morning we went out walking to the main square where there was a large statue of a man on a horse surrounded by huge billboards for Ray Bans, Pepie Jeans and other similar products. The markets behind the square were full of local Saturday morning shoppers; the fruit and veggies were super fresh and we sacked on strawberries and bananas. We then commenced a walking route around the ... read more

I'll have to admit that I knew embarrassingly little about Sarajevo before I came -- all I knew about it was that it's the capital of one of the longest country names I had the misfortune to memorize in geography class, and that its claim to fame (in my mind, mind you :P) was being the city that was bombed to smithereens in the recent Bosnian conflict. The moment I arrived at the bus station, I instantly learned a couple of important things: 1) The Lukavica bus station is a decrepit, sorry-for-an-excuse bus depot/hovel which serves as the secondary international bus station in the city where all the reject routes end up in Sarajevo (AKA the buses coming in from Serbia and Montenegro :P), located in the middle of nowhere 2) And because I was currently ... read more
