Having spent eleven years as the United States Representative to the Infrastructure Committees, when the inviation arrived to attend the 50th anniversary celebrations in Brussels, I immediately accepted. It would be a wonderful opportunity to meet former colleagues. I hadn't been to Brussels since leaving in November 1995, so this would also be an opportunity to see our former neighbors and visit the places we enjoyed so much. Mike and Betty kindly allowed me to stay at their home and even let me borrow their car. Before the official events kicked off, my former boss Dave invited a close group of friends for dinner. This would be the first of many trips with George. I had not even been working at the airline for a year, but I was already beginning to love this job!! On the evening of June 4, we took a red eye flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta. It was Delta 786, which was a 757 aircraft. We were seated up front in first class and I had ... read more

Grand Place is indeed grand. The main square of Brussels is surrounded by very old, very nice buildings. Only a block away he's standing. Le Maneken Pis. He's very small, only a foot or so tall. Yet his watering in the fountain never ends. What has he been drinking? And why is he so famous? He's so small... If it wasn't for the hoards of tourists stopping by this particular street corner to take a picture of this little marvel, it would easily be missed. But, and sadly enough, it's one of the most famous sights in Brussels, the administrative capital of Europe. The little peeing guy. Every now and then he's dressed up in different costumes. Not sure why. Certainly he doesn't care. It probably gives the tourists the sensation of having seen something new ... read more
