Chunnel Container, England to Calais France Day 5 - Monday Today was program day at The Transport For London. This is my program that I found accidentally when I was reading a trade journal. The topic, Congestion Charging- motorist paying an 8 pound charge to enter the city. Interesting concept and it's working. Traffic was not as bad as it use to be. We traveled the city by bus, tube, foot and cab. See
for details. Goodbye London and hello Brussels!
New cast of characters:
Susan is a graduate of the MPA program and Donna is a retired co-worker of Susan's.
Angela is a graduate of the MPA program and Shelley is her sister.
The drive to Brussels was fun and not as long as I anticipated. We had our usual "chunnel party". So what is a chunnel party? To get from England to mainland Europe, vehicles are placed in a container and that container in another container for a ride under the English Channel. It takes 30-45 minutes. So in our container you can get out and this is where the party comes in. We ask all to bring some snacks and drinks and we just get out of the bus and Chunnel Party
Fun, food and drinks at the DrakeSmart Chunnel Party have a few drinks, food and play a game or two. This year, Sarah showed us how to play cowboy or Indian, something like that. It was fun.
We were going to stop at a military cemetery on our way to Brussels but time was tight. Maybe tomorrow. We arrived at 6 pm in Brussels, tight quarters here. Bus unloading was a challenge but Luggi was able to get it handled. We went out exploring for chocolates, mussels and fish stew/soup. We found them all and chocolate waffles too. The chocolate waffles are "to die for". Yes, we found the peeing boy (mannequin pis) and walked the Grand Palace area. The scenery and atmosphere was grand!
After a walk in the park with Todd, Sarah and Katie, we made it back to the hotel by 12 pm. I did some blogging and I'm trying to find how to get to a US military cemetery. I hope we can locate one after leaving Brussels at 11:30 am tomorrow. Now off to bed at 1 am.
Day 6 - Tuesday "Happy St Patrick's Day" To All I'm up early today. My program is at the US Embassy
Fish Stew
Fish Stew in Brussels to the EU. After the EU program, we have a program in Tilburg at 3 pm. So today will be a long day. Internet access is not great, free here, but not the best connection. So sorry if I already wrote this.
Believe it or not, I have not accessed the news. No AC 360, no Hardball with Chris Matthews, no Morning Joe or Larry King Live. Also, no Van and Bonnie. As a news junkie I will need a fix real soon.
As we leave Brussels, all I can say, great overnight stop but we need to come back for a longer visit.
LongStory Short,
Ann
