sorry guys
laundry is finished...as is my diet as i just had yet another kebab dinner.
i loves me some curried meats.
such class...
anyways after the awe inspiring trip to the peeing statues we decided it was time for some traditional fair. or at least sina's stomach told us so.
we go to a restraunt along the perimeter of the floral carpet and decide it best to sit inside away from the noise pollution that was saturday afternoon in brussels.
of course we ate some belgian waffles and beer for dinner.
what else would we eat?
these waffles were insane they were crisp and covered in icing sugar, ice cream, whipped cream, and of course, chocolate sauce.
and to drink, my new favorite beer: Leffe blonde
sooo good. after that on the way to the car we saw that there was an exhibit going on across the street for Salvador Dali, whom, surprisingly, sina loves.
so we went to that and it was amazing. it had pieces from his original sketchings of alice and wonderland, the mattidor series, and of course his more famous clock works as well. but what was interesting also was that you could buy these pieces....
i checked one out you know....55,000euro later i decided i'd rather put a down payment on a condo instead...
:P
there was also some of his statues and models he had made that were incredibly interesting and of course the hallways were filled with delectable quotes from the man.
such as, my favorite, "the world can never tire nor be too full of extravagance"
tres chic.
after the museum it was about 6pm so we decided it was time to see the ATOMIUM
what is the atomium you ask?
wellll it was built about 50+ years ago by a series of architects and is basically a large scale model of an atom.
yet in chrome
you can visit the inside balls of the atomium and walk all the way to the top
it had to be as big as eiffel, for sure.
anyways we got there about 15minutes too late to go inside which was ok by me cause theres no way i was walking all the way up those steps then down and i feel sina felt the same way
quelle domage!
we walked through the park and underneath it though and as we were doing so we heard a strange noise
almost like a zipper....
theeeeeen we saw it.
people were zip lining from the top of the atomium all the way to the ground....
haha one girl got stuck and totally freaked out like 500ft off the ground. hilarity
after we watched in amazement and bet each other as to who would jump first, we noticed that right beside us was a huge amusement park.
so of course we went in, only to find that we were in fact in LITTLE EUROPE!!!
so cute
its like disney except smaller and cuter
inside was a series of mini models of all the landmarks in europe along this outdoor trail beside a man made river stocked full of catfish whom i promptly called "bubbles"
they come to the surface beside u and blow bubbles....
you could literally touch them....and they liked it
sina didnt though
soooo we walked along the street of restraunts that were based on different countries on the upper part of the park and there i saw it.
in all its glory....the two story, pink and pearl, classic carousel.
complete with horses, carriages, and pinnnnk elephants!!!!
sina wouldnt go on it with me. he drew the line that day.
so i took pics like a tourist. and we moved on to little europe's display area
it was super cute, they had a model of the EU headquarters in brussels, then of course the eiffel tower, windmills, numerous cathedrals, the acropolis, sputnick, everything and anything you could think of thats famous in europe, they had a model made of it.
including many of the castles i own.
ooooh and mount visuvius (sp?) was awesommmme it was this big smokey mountain (obviously) but when u stepped in front of it, the cement block shook and rumbled, causing one to panic a bit in public and another to laugh hysterically....
whilst we were walking through i couldnt help but notice that there were numerous displays of fireworks set up amid the displays....new fireworks...as if they were to be set of in the near future...say an hour?
ohhh yayyyy we just so happened to visit on the only day of the week in the summer that they put on a fireworks display over the park!!!
so of course we stayed.
it was soooo cute, they lit up the atomium, like each ball has a series of grids covered in white sparkly lights and they do there dance moves all over then smoke appeared all over the park and from the loud speakers....what else, but ABBA started, followed by tom jones, the devil went down to georgia, and robbie williams. haha
so the fireworks were pretty darn impressive and went on for a solid 15-20 minutes, which we both enjoyed.
after that was over i was kind of bummed that we hadnt found the EU headquarters whilst in brussel, what with being a student of international development and all it seems like a dichotomy of sorts to not visit the EU...sooo we stuck sally on (the gps) and began our adventure into finding the EU...
soooo about an hour later we discover that sally has betrayed us and we are no longer in the north of brussels but the south...as sina put it so nicely, an area we should not visit.
along the main drag though they had this insannnnely huge carnival going on all night which was kind of cool to go through because of the lights and hillarious multitudes of european fair rides. like the tea cup ride or twirl-a-wirl uses cars, not tea cups. haha anywho i was also introduced to "the night shop"
the night shop, as it is displayed in english on the signs, sells various drug periphenalia (sp?) liqeurs, tabacco, etc. yet another place i "should never visit"
about a half an hour later we gave up on the EU search as it was 1am and we had another busy day ahead of us so, unfortunately, i am the worst ids kid in the world, cause i didnt visit the headquarters.
so shoot me.
i do have a pic of the model though from little europe.
i'd like to see half of you try and tell the difference 😊
much love
